A GTX 260 or an R7 260? It will be a big upgrade either way. btw are you sure your CPU won't be a bottleneck?

gtx 260 with 1gb of vram. no idea if it'll bottleneck, but i'm too lazy to find one i'm sure won't be.

dunno why i thought i sent my pcpartpicker list already. it doesn't have much on it because i don't wanna accidentally buy 2 of something, so i keep making new lists. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t4FBFd

Do you already have a motherboard for that CPU? You're gonna need a Z170 motherboard. You should also make sure that your current power supply and case are good enough for that upgrade.

ALSO don't get MSI cards; they have horrible coil whine (at least the last 6 I've been around have had, including my own which I fixed ;p)
G

Gigabyte, EVGA and ASUS usually do better not making coil whine.

might as well give some feedback on the list you posted ;p

Recommend you to either choose another cooler, or put on your own fan, those sleeve bearing fans are fucking horrible (they get really loud after some time). If you want some tips, I run be quiet fans in my system, and my system is inaudible (if you are blind you wouldn't be able tot tell if it was on or not ;p https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3P7U_v0SRA now yes that is background noise you hear, but that is coming from my server across the room ;p)

What THE? Just get 1 SSD, and all is good... I recommend you get either a Intel or Samsung SSD (those have been the most reliable to me, as long as you don't get the intel 320 series (which is like 69 years old and outdated anyways.)) (500GB Samsung 850 EVO hint hint)

smh (may I ask for the reason you are not getting W10?) You are also (as TheDankWarLord pointed out missing a motherboard, if you want to be able to overclock(with official support from intel for doing so at least) you are going to need a Z series chipset on your board, on the 1151 socket which would be: "You're gonna need a Z170 motherboard.") keep in mind these are just some tips, they are not to salt you off ;p

i have an ASUS MAXIMUS HERO VIII mobo already, 750W-or-so-PSU, ODD, and case. i'm getting an HDD as well as the SSD because i want the OS and important files on SSD, and games and misc. storage on HDD. the GTX 260 i have is from MSI and it's not that bad. if there's another cpu cooler that's better and costs around the same, i'll get it instead. windows 7 reasoning is mostly just personal preference. i'm used to it and know how to get around with it. sorry for messy wall of text. im on mobile.
