you know that Hordus (Herod in english) built metsada? before him, no one even thought about this place for many reasons: 1. its in the middle of the fcking desert 2. jerusalem is about 1 day of walking away 3. no one looked this place to build castle 4. it will cost a lot to bring stones to this place 5. its hard to store water in the desert 6. its super hard to move supply to Metsada (Masada), its on the top of a precipitous hill. he built it as his secret hideout and no, they didnt all commit suicide. The soldiers of Rome killed them all but wrote that they did suicide so they wont be remembered as mosters who killed a bunch of people who didnt actually fought against Rome.

Yes I do :3 but you can't be sure about that suicide thing. (I agree with you though) but there is no real clear answer. The historian who recorded the events of Masada was Josephus, who also recorded the destruction of Jerusalem. He is accurate the majority of the time, but his details are not accurate about Masada so I agree with you

Also, if I'm building something in the mountains (mountains are made of stone) why would I bring the stone from some place else?

XD you think all the type of stones in the world are the same? plus, if you will use the stones of the hill (thats not a mount) it will lose its hight and will become a normal castle
