Then why do the democrats keep talking about a 'comprehensive path to citizenship for illegal immigrants'? This was actually their idea and will make it easier to find the criminals amongst the illegal immigrant population and deport them.
The laws make it illegal to come to America undocumented, under Obama these laws were largely ignored and the administration told border patrol to roll back patrols and to let migrants enter the US if they were not seen crossing the border, and gave foreigners who would be suspected of violating US immigration laws the benefit of the doubt. Also what was ordered was similar to the catch and release policy where even those caught in violation of immigration laws were to be released pending a hearing, giving them the opportunity to flee.
These laws are in place to protect the US borders and document everyone who enters and leaves to US. And document everyone who comes to live in the US so they are accounted for. Most countries have stricter laws than the US (example Mexico). I order the enforcement of our existing border laws and get smeared and called hateful names by the negative dishonest news media and the democrats.
Almost all countries have laws that make it illegal to enter without documentation and being accounted for. In most countries deportation is required for immigrants who enter illegally. Many countries in Europe ignore their external border laws and absorb millions of migrants entering illegally. Because Europe 'needs' them because of the declining native population. EU countries have open borders only with other EU countries. The US has the power to choose who enters it and who doesn't. Liberals mostly oppose immigration laws and don't seem to understand that I have no intention of changing immigration laws but rather would like to just enforce the current ones.
Since there are between 10 and 15 million illegal immigrants, many of whom have been here for years and many who have children born in the US making the children citizens, and since most illegal immigrants are not criminals aside from entering the US illegally and remaining undocumented, it would be impractical to deport all 12 million (most likely number) illegal immigrants. To clean up this mess of undocumented immigration, we need to get these people documented and on their way to citizenship or deported. If people refuse to follow the law and become a legal part of our society then they will get deported. If they have criminal records then they will get deported and would otherwise be unlikely to follow the law and be accounted for and we don't need illegal immigrants who commit crimes filling up our prisons.
