The future is wireless, everyone else will eventually follow. Apple was not the first to remove headphone jack and it wasn't the last. Rumor has it Samsung will follow in 2018 or 2019. This type of thing has happened before with old technology, The rest of the world always follows Apple.

Also an additional reason to ditch the jack in iPhone 7 was the create space for the second generation Taptic Engine.
