It’s always gone back and forth, before Bush’s second term it was republican majority, the democrats took over then during Obama’s first term republicans took some back then took it all after the 2016 election. It will, when one party becomes dominant for too long or too dominant it results in a major shift, but the current state of things has made everything a bit unstable. Social media is heavily fueling it.

Currently the dominance of the republicans is at a level not been seen by either party for decades, controlling the executive, legislative and judicial branches at a federal level and in most of the states. But the peak in dominance of this republican surge will probably be short lived, and yes the republican dominance will probably be eroded fast in the next few years. But neither party is going away anytime soon.
