I think xPossum meant transgender people, rather than gay people. Transgender still fits into the LGBTQ category. Of course, the ban is outrageous and is being continually blocked in court. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oct/30/trump-transgender-troops-ban-military-judge “We are enormously relieved for our plaintiffs and other transgender service members,” Shannon Minter, head of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, told the AP. “Their lives have been devastated since Trump first tweeted he was reinstating the ban. They are now able to serve on equal terms with everyone else.”

I think it has to do with transitioning and shit rather than them actually being trans if that makes sense, it wasn't a "hurr durr dem evils trans ppl"

The ban isn’t outrageous. Transgender people have mental disorders and it costs the military a lot of extra money.
To be fair, trans members haven't really posed a problem before iirc but I could be wrong

4031631 outrageous? Whether you believe that being trans is a mental disorder or not, you can't deny that trans people have a higher suicide rate and are at a higher risk of depression. People with bipolar, depression, etc, can also be denied because those aren't things you want to have when you're fighting in a war... while I wouldn't say that having depression in the war and being trans in the war is exactly the same, I would say that perhaps trans people are at a higher risk of being traumatized or something similar compared to cisgendered people. It sounds shitty to outright ban a group of people from participating in the military, but I think it's an overall considerate decision for both the trans community, and for all cisgendered troops we currently have.

Also 1 in 6 soldiers have PTSD, while many less are transgender, so it's hard to make an argument for banning trans people in terms of priorities.
