if she's getting bullied and missing toes bc of it it's better to separate them, even if they're a communal species and have been with each other all their lives, the domination and injuries most likely won't go away

it might stress them too much though, they're prone to heart issues.

the female is already getting pushed around and nipped at by the male to the point where she's missing toes, depending on the tank you could probably use something to divide the tank for now so that they stay separate but don't have to deal with the stress of being moved into an entirely new enclosure just yet

either divide the tank or put them into separate tanks. i'm pretty sure she'd be more stressed that her toes keep getting bitten off than if you were to switch the tank...i think either one is a safety concern but there's a chance he could bite something off that could lead to her potential death

it's only necessary to take her to the vet if she shows signs of disease/infection

well trouble swimming too, especially since their feet/toes are necessary for swimming and balance

well that's why i want to take her to the vet because i can't tell if she's infected or not and a vet would be able to tell.

i think it's a territory issue, the tank is too small for her
