It's the difference in ideology between the administrations, China now wants to appear more disciplined and strong whereas in the Obama administration this was not seen as necessary. You can see it in the Thumbnail, the people's liberation army standing proudly as well as strong as the president of their rival nation marches in discussion with their leader; whereas on the left you see a more loose representation just some generals and some soldiers.
