you're wrong about excluding suicide in this. Most non gun suicide attempts have a decent rate of survival and often those who've failed in killing themselves will seek help for their mental illness. you're less likely to have that second chance if you're mentally ill with a gun. regardless of mass shootings, our suicide rate with guns is already a big issue.
