Pearl Harbor teaches: there can be war without declaration

Japanese Kamikazes were like Jihadists, and the US formally declared war on Japan after Pearl Harbor.

There has been no was declaration since WW II, every other conflict has been a "police action" or some other derivation thereof. Why should this be any different than the past 50 years?

Correct, this whole thing started during Obama's presidency, if you all remember the "Arab Spring" a few years ago. He bombed them as well. While I don't think we should be involved in this conflict, I do think that once you start something you should see it through.

That's why most European nations do stay away from Siria. For a war, we need a formal declaration; for a police action we need a UN resolution.
