we'll see, but im almost certain it's my dog, my mom gave it away without telling me and without letting me get my say. he came back, he even responds to his old nicknames

Awh that's so sweet. You need to first let the dog in, second, try and make sure the dog is visibly fine, third, look for a way to tell whose dog it is, and four, adopt it if you can't find the owner. I know it came back to you, but some other owner may be missing it a lot right now.
