can someone explain what was wrong with the ad?

the ad really isn't the issue. its well produced and has a pretty decent message. the backlash comes from who's narrating and starts in it - fmr nfl quaterback colin kapernick, who if you don't know was the starter of the kneeling during the ntl, anthem thing. people are mad that he's the spokesperson for nike and people who disagree with the whole flag thing are burning their nike products (but ya know they've already given nike their money) and are boycotting the company because hes in the ad.
The fact the Kaepernick is in it at all. Colin Kaepernick is well known for disrespecting the flag, kneeling on the ground during the anthem before NFL games and encouraging others to do the same in order to stop ‘police brutality against colored people’. I do not see how this could possibly help. Getting active in communities, becoming a community organizer, setting up charitable funds and helping people to rise above whatever socioeconomic disadvantage they come from instead of blaming people from different backgrounds or socioeconomic statuses and also speaking out against misconduct and misconceptions on both sides of the issues he wants to address would have actually made a difference. Instead he has planted a seed of defiance and unpatriotism. People all over America are dissing the flag now because Kaepernick has led them to believe it symbolizes ‘oppression’. It is both ironic and sad that this is happening. Kaepernick now blames the NFL teams not signing him on ‘racism’. when over 70% of NFL players are black. However millions of people believe him including in the media. Yet he is just a divisive and unpatriotic attention monger.
Not to mention Nike is being a complete hypocrite by putting him in the ad. If Nike actually cared about what they claim, they wouldn't be extorting people from foreign countries by having them do cheap labor. Especially, considering the people they extort are non-white. Last but not least, they took a political stance by putting him in the ad which is a no no for any business.
The issues he is referring to are mostly the result of misconduct and misconceptions that over a generation could be addressed, not a battle between one group and another. And not an issue that should involve turning your back on the symbol of America, it should be used to unite the people affected by the issues he highlights just like it has been throughout history. We are America, all of us. That is how progress has always been made in this nation, not “this is America and we are stuck in it” that will ultimately destroy the social integrity of our nation.
Yeah but millennial leftists are eating it up because they are nuts and do not have the right mindset about the issues. They just want Modern Educayshun. (Reference to a YouTube video).
That’s because the millennial leftist nuts think they’re stopping ‘racism’ by buying nike. Nike is laughing their ass off at the stupidity.

Still a good marketing strategy since the people buying in support outweigh the customers who're boycotting. Personally I couldn't give two shits. I don't care about the political tendencies of a company (to an extent, I mean if they had hitler as a spokesman I would probably be miffed), I care about the quality of the product.
It’s not necessarily that the people who support outweigh them you see the above link demonstrates that across-the-board in every age group they have had a tremendous to decline in popularity, however the people who do support the political movement are actively buying at a much higher rate and it has caused an increase of sales.
It’s a great marketing strategy. Now Nike’s popularity and has fallen from 69% favorability to 35% favorability but that 35% is buying right now higher than the 69% was previously.

Another part of all this the fact that Nike is the big supplier of the NFL, so by having him represent them, it seems that Nike is backing him, ultimately slapping the face of the people who they support

Nike is a bad product though. They break down very easily. Sketchers outdo them in performance.

Then don't buy them because of that, rather than burn a product you already payed for just because they have a different political agenda lol.
