Ya, Article 13 is ridiculous. As is the anti-net neutrality measures attempted to be passed here in the US. It's no different. Hopefully you can prevent the freedom of Americans being infringed.
The implications of what this means the EU is willing to do and threaten platforms with is ominous. It’s bad news for most of us and a rude awakening to the changes the governments are pushing on everyone.
It affects much more than just YouTube. If fully enforced it may very likely prompt businesses and platforms to overhaul the content and filtering done on them. This can fundamentally change the way the internet operates as an entity and how we understand it to work in the future.
Net Neutrality is legislation that protects much of the freedom on the internet, without it there is no guarantee that neutrality will persist although it may very well in the foreseeable future. Article 13 is legislation that inhibits much of the freedom and abilities of internet use, affecting many of it’s fundamentals.
Lemme tell you something, us in the middle East know about how good can the EU and UN enforce anything. They didn't stop from Egypt to place troops at Sinai or from Israel to strike them (6 days war) they didn't stop Asad from using chemical weapons, they didn't stop Iran, Iraq or Syria from starting a nuclear program. They said a lot of shit but did nothing beyond that and if countries as weak as Lebanon and Israel (can't match a single European army) can tell them "fuck off no one cares about you" why would economic giants that can literally do anything they want without any consequences because all they do is provide a service on the internet, listen to them? The EU can't arrest all of the social media users and if they try arresting either them or those who work at the social medias you will see riots spreading across Europe.
I think it will mostly come down to the fact that, according to most surveys I have seen on the topic... this is not what the people want. EU citizens are shocked by the new legislation, they didn't vote for this kind of bullcrap, and a lot certainly don't want to let it slide. Ex-members of the former parliament party "The Pirates" in Germany are now already considering a lawsuit against the EU for infringing on fair use rights, and I hardly doubt they are the only ones.
