About merging with Clashwars (Includes poll)

(Mainly to staff but loads of people might ask the same questions)

There are a few issues I have regarding this merger.

1. Will the forums still be used? Or will we have a new joint website or will we have to use their site? (Frankly their site is not exactly well designed and moving sites may have a large impact on the community)

2. Will there be a portal to join Clashwars from the siege server?

3. When will Clashwars open?

4. 'The name and website will stay ClashWars. The Empire War community will slowly merge into the Clash Wars community.' Considering that Clashwars hasn't even opened yet do you mean that the Empirewar community will remain basically the same apart from a name change, more players (since clashwars might become huge) and more minigames? Or is there already an independent Clashwars community?

(To other players)
Pros I can think of:
-Efficiency. As Tim said bugs get fixed more quickly.
-More potential games. We might even get LMS back up again, and there will be more minigames
-More people on. This may be good or bad depending on their quality, but we should assume that it would be beneficial. This also means a larger and more varied community.

Cons:
-Priorities of the staff team. With so many other minigames there is a chance that the staff team may put their attention elsewhere. However we have to wait and see.
-The site. According to Tim's post and the Clashwars website we are going to merge into their community. The main problem is that the Empirewar community may simply disappear and turn straight into the Clashwars community, making it more of an annexation instead of a merger. In other words we may lose our sense of identity. (e.g. They might not know what LMS is or what RP was, or other 'inside stuff')

Please vote and voice your opinions below. Obviously the merger is likely going to happen anyway since it is the decision of the staff, but I am sure they would want to know what we think.

My own opinions (I didn't post these on the post above as the original post was to initiate discussion): I largely support the merger. It would mean that more people will be working on EW as well so stuff gets fixed more quickly, and we may also get a new variety of minigames that we may play if we wish to (I know most people also play on other servers anyway. My primary objection is the merging of EW into CW, but since CW itself doesn't have a community yet the bulk of the players will be from EW, easing the transition and making it more like a name change. Another problem is the website, but I am sure it can sort itself out.

Edit: Looking back I think we should have a way to back out if the merger doesn't work out. We should do it step by step.

1. The EW forums/website will stay as it is right now.
However, the CW website will have a special page for Siege with a custom design.
We think that ones the players are used to it the CW website will be used more because that community will become bigger then the EW community eventually.
But for the first months or maybe even forever this site and forums will stay.
This completely depends on the community.
And thanks for liking my design haha :p

2. There will be.

3. We don't have a release date yet but the progress is going really fast.
In a week I have 2 weeks off from college so then I hope to finish most of the server.

4. Yes, The EW community will stay mostly the same but also this depends on the community.
If the community is getting used to the merge we will combine more and more and we might end up as having everything together and not just the name.
But at the start it will be mostly the same as it is now because CW doesn't really exist yet.

For your con about the staff:
- The EW staff team will mainly focus on the siege event still.
We have a huge staff team now though so we have plenty people that can be online on both siege and the other events.

And to answer this:
"Edit: Looking back I think we should have a way to back out if the merger doesn't work out. We should do it step by step."
We are doing it step by step and slowly all we did so far is actually combine the staff and tell the community.

Speaking from a purely selfish standpoint - that is, only considering the benefit of EW - this is a situation that would be foolish not to take advantage of. We have a chance to gain a lot of new players, be a part of a bigger network, gain interpersonal skills through the interactions between the staff teams, have more stability as our contact net spreads, still be able to focus our attention on siege... Even if it were to sour somehow, we could easily break off and back out.

The same probably goes for CW. It is a win-win situation for the both of us, and one that I hope and believe will help both our servers grow.

So, let's see what happens, eh? I for one am very excited.

1. I think that the CW community should grow from the EW community, this would prevent all of the tension and problems caused by merging communities in the future. This is mainly to do with the websites. One of the ways to do it is to use the EW website where most of hte community already is and just modifying it to suit the rest of CW. Another way is instead having a special page on CW for siege, it should be directly linked to this site. I suggest the first option as most threads are already here and the community is based here.

4. Same as 1. (CW community should grow out of EW community)

So basically I suggest taking the CW name but having the site remain EW style.

How many events will you have BTW?

Just to clarify is this whole business a partnership, a merger, or a partnership headed towards merger?

I think the sites should just link to each other. Also if the siege player data gets reset you are going to lose a lot of players.

I think The sites should link to each other. Also will siege player data reset.

I doubt it. Please correct me if I am wrong:

My impression of the merger is that there will be a portal to siege from CW and vice versa, link from CW website to EW site and vice versa, and staff ranks get renamed, with the possibility of further integration in the future. I highly doubt the data will get reset.

That sums everything up yeah.

And for the site don't worry about it as I said this site will remain and when you click on siege it will go to here and in the future it might be integrated in our site and we will fully move to our site but once again this depends on the community.
At the start the impact for you as user will be nearly nothing.
And for the reset I have no idea what plans Tim has but I don't see any reason why we would have to reset it.

I won't reset stats. I will make EW-SIEGE look more like the other CW servers to make it feel like you're in the same community when switching servers.

I am around 50 50 on this for my like and hate. I feel like EW wont be its own thing, just something smaller within CW hence the name nothing to do with siege.

Another thing which I fear. Too many minigames is a problem. But again the point is in the first few months we should be able to back out if we want to. I think we should have another poll after a month.
This is not a good idea. The EW community is going to go away and I don't want that to happen
It won't go away. It just won't be the EW community anymore.

I say, add many minigame portals, but make siege larger than the others, making it more noticeable and important than the others.

I know merging seems like a good idea, and I say give it a go, but, I was in a good server community before, they merged and most of the server I was on, its players and admins weren't much heard from. I was one of the admins.

If that doesn't happen I think they will lose many people quickly. Don't forget that there are other servers like EW (won't name them as that would be advertising) and this would case EW (Or cw in that case) to lose members.
This really is not good for empirewar. They should just be sister servers.
At first they will effectively be sister servers.

The good thing is that there isn't an independent CW community so it will effectively remain us. (With new players of course, but the community will basically remain the same). The reason why I didn't disagree although my instinct tells me to is because we haven't even given it a go yet, if it doesn't work out we just back out.

All we can do is wait, if it goes bad, tim might persist to wait (to leave and become our own server again), but it might be too late, just a theory.
