Boosting Speed/Reducing Lag

Hey guys, as the server's become more popular, i've been experiencing a lot of lag issues that stem from my computer, and i was wondering if there is anything i can do to boost my minecraft speed, or reduce the lag.

Before you jabber out "go get optifine" i already got it, and i'm still super laggy.

Here are my computers specs:

Windows 8.1
1.8 GHz processor
4GB RAM

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

Storm

Here are my suggustions:

1. Go clean your minecraft folder if you use mods, optifine, etc.

2. Sometimes optifine creates MORE lag, try to experiment with and without it

3. Turn graphics into fast, smooth lightning off, 3D Anaglyph off, Particles minimal, render distance normal small or tiny, performance max FPS, clouds off, and setting Peaceful (will help even though is not a survival server, just do it).

4. Try to use a wifi with less users on it, this may help.

5. Try to keep one program open at a time, for instance only run minecraft and not chrome, or vice versa.

6. Beleive in the power of Captain Nemo.

7. Eat pie

Move to the house beside Tim's. While he's away, sneak into his house and change the server settings so that everyone else lags more than you. Now being the least laggy person, you will seem perfectly lag-free.

1. So i should clean out my modded 1.7 versions?

2. Definitely less lag w/ optifine

3. Already done it.

4. Using home wifi.

5. Ok. will do. thanks.

6-7. All hail nemo. and pie.

I thought giving it more memory will give some improvement, because minecraft is Java based so it will need lots of RAM
