Camping

Lately, I have seen several people accused of camping, and people told me it was illegal. What is considered camping? People were angry at others who were staying at flags or the gold. I always have called this guarding. I am oretty sure that this is not what the rule is about, but I am confued about what it is for, as camping isn't helpful in a useless area, but it is stratgey in a useful area.

Staying near a flag or the gold is defending. Not camping.

Agreed the only type of camping that is bad is spawn camping.

Usually when the staff team or other players who are actually concerned abut the RULES say "No Camping", it more often then not refers to players who are camping in a particular position for an extended period of time just to gain the advantage of killing players with extreme ease. A great example is spawn camping, where a player intention sits on a high spot out of view and waits for players to exit the safety of the spawn to which they are then killed by set person. This is incredibly disrespectful to other players, and shows that this player has terrible judgement. You can also consider running around in the vicinity of the spawn, spawn camping. There are other forms of camping as well, such as grouping into one objective area, making it impossible for the opposing team or group to capture or complete this objective.

Isnt the whole point of the defending team to prevent the attacking team from completing an objective?

Also about camping: Minas morgul main gate. When a battalion of trolls camp there its untakeable

I thought the object of the game was to win within the rules at all costs i will never give up.

Quote from www.empirewar.org/rules:
5) Spawn camping is not allowed.
(This means attacking someone if he hasn't even / has barely moved after spawning)

What I wont do: camp at an enemy's spawn

What I will do: defend a flag and put the enemy in as much of a disadvantage as possible.

My highest killstreaks all came from camping a defensive position. (Not enemy spawn)

So is staying at the gold actually illegal, or were people just getting angry because thay were losing?
Getting angry because they are losing. As long a s you are not in front of there spawn killing people that just spawned and are spawning.Camping the gold is a tactic for your guys to win don't we want tactics.

Well you can say that you're "defending" your checkpoint for example, but knowing from a staff perspective, the opposing players don't get enjoyment out of the game from having a huge battalion of the team positioned in the same spot for the entire game. I'd suggest running around near it, but personally, I find it much more respectful towards other players and the game itself if you keep it fair by not "defending" in the same spot the entire match. Now, I don't mean you can't defend, since that's the point, but what I mean is, and you see this all the time on Moria and Morgul, that players shouldn't stay in the same spot the entire game, rendering everything useless for the other team. It just isn't fair, and not good towards what I "thought" this server goal was - to create a fun atmosphere for players to re-create famous battles or maps in a minecraft server.

You're allowed to stay anywhere, as long as you don't attack someone who has just spawned and didn't have the time to prepare/run.

Usually not a problem apart from 1 map: Minas Morgul. Mordor ALWAYS camps and if they do it correctly its impossible to capture at all.

Indeed. The map usually dictates how much camping occurs.

Some spawns are VERY poorly designed. Most are good but there are some that just suck.

List:
2nd gate of Minas Tirith (gondor)
5th gate of Minas Tirith (gondor)
Moria Gold (Both goblin and dwarf)

Bad flags:
Minas Tirith 5th gate
Minas Morgul main gate
MINAS MORGUL TOWER, WORST FLAG EVER DESIGNED IN THIS SERVER

Also the signs at chasm point badly. They say 'goblin flag' even after dwarves retake it. Many ppl get lost this way and this reduces the number of dwarves defending.

The tower is possible 2 unites at the top that bring up more donors to unite more will get it but otherwise it is literally impossible.
