GoT Research Paper

BackAttack

New member
Hey guys.
So, for the next year, i am planning to do a research about the historical backgrounds in Game of Thrones. It has to be 20-25 pages long and i have the entire year for it. It will replace my 5th exam for the german high school graduation, so it's pretty important. I talked with my history teacher about it, and she doesnt know GoT, so i will have to restrict it a bit so she doesnt have to read all of it. My first ideas are:
1. Similarities to The War of the Roses
2. European cultures/nations in the world of GoT
3. Characters and their historic examples.

What do you think about it? Any more suggestions? I can post all i've got till now in thir thread if there's interest :3

Just remember that, since the North widely doesn't acknowledge the 7, for they have the Old gods, they don't have knights and don't accept men into knighthood.

I wont take every single detail, it|s more like the general storz line. Rob Stark i.e. has similarities to Alexander the Great, he became young King, he hasnt lost a battle, his father got killed in the capital, while one of his campaigns there was a rebellion in his homelands, so he had to go back to fight it first..
Or SPOILER

Jons death has similarities the ceasars, they both wanted to give more right to the men outside (in ceasers cae it was outside of italia i think) and got murdered for though because the rest didnt like that.

I've read something in the most recent GoT book. Ser Barristan, when gathering his coucil for Mereen while Daenerys is gone, sat the council around a round table. Meaning, 'least to me, that Barristan is king Arthur. Barristan also imagines Daenerys as his love interest, Azshara Dayne, who he connects with Daenerys due to similarly coloured eyes. He loves Daenerys (although not love love) and is about four times as old as she is. He would die protecting her from anything. Then there's the chance that dragons are the holy grail or that Daenerys herself is holy grail. Barristan was on a quest to find her along with many, many other differently coloured characters.

Riko: Not everything. The Free cities are similar to Northern Italia in the Late Middle Age, Braavos is obviously venecia + Rhodes. Quarth is Konstantinople ("Queen of the cities", 3 walls, trade). Iron Islands= Vikings, duh.

Hah that's funny. A friend and I are doing this for a history exam assignment next year as well :p

Just thought of something, may not fit, but Valyrian Steel is Damascus' steel. It's said that Damascus's steel was able to slice trough other swords and stayed sharp for a very long time. And now, no one knows how to make it, though, modern steel is stronger now.

My friend and I are doing our chemistry exam assignment about Crystal Meth. And yes, we're both fans of Breaking Bad :D
