Lore

Hello members of Empirewar, I have recently been looking up Arda (Middle-Earth/Undying Lands) lore on sites a lot. I have decided to make a thread about lore of Arda (Middle-Earth/Undying Lands) this website to teach people about things that happened before, after and during The War of the Ring. Those of you who do not know what lore is, lore is things that took place in a universe that you do not see in the movies or the books. For example if I posted something about The Fall of Gondolin in the comments then I would have made a lore post. I just think that this will be a great thing for us, you know to learn more about Middle-Earth heritage and its culture.

If you want to put a Lore post bellow hears what it should and not be:
1. Do NOT get into a any arguments, this is supposed to teach people that want to learn more about Arda
2. It has to have really happened (Theories are allowed)
3. It must be long too (2-3 paragraphs)
4. Has to be about Arda (Middle-Earth or the Undying Lands)
5. Try to make the Person, Place, Race, Battle etc have a picture too.

Ok I hope we have some good conversations on here :)

Encyclopedia of Arda: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Main_Page

Map of Arda:

This has nothing to go with lore but you image has a startling resemblance to the map of crush the castle 2 - such good and easy times, i miss those times.

like before the second chaining of morgoth and the siege of angband old. That is a silmerilion map, might want to put a map of modern middle earth in there as well. most of beriland is sunken beneath the waves.

I have a huge theory to talk about.

General Information and Appearences

Snow-trolls, were however not in Tolkiens work, but the Trolls who lived in the Coldfells in western Eriador must have been similar to these. Though, I believe (or half believe) that Snow Trolls appeared in the Third age, though In the Rise Of the Witch king, there was Snow trolls in Rogash's army (whom is a troll) and this was 2, 783 years before. Though, they were not in Tolkiens work that is known. There is to be known hundreds of books and essays that tolkien did not finish and "Snow Troll" possibly could of appeared in his unfinished works.

Size, Nature and facts

Snow trolls are one of the smallest species of trolls, but still are about 10 feet tall, and bigger ones can be 14 (estimation). They hate Hill-trolls (theory) since they have fought over treasure and land; Snow trolls were fighting Hill-trolls and maybe a other type of troll in The Rise of the Witch King.

Long Winter

This is pure estimation, as it has no proof of being real or fake.
In the Long winter, many places in Eriador and Rohan were depopulated, and instead many, many Snow trolls came. Possibly several hundred or up to several thousand, but - in any way in sufficient numbers. They had a good advantage since their Fur was made for the dying temperatures, and they live in Snowy places or extremely cold. After, long winter - many were killed.

After Long Winter

Many died, after long winter, they fled, back to the eastern lands.

After the War of the Ring

They were only briefly mentioned several times, in the war of the ring. Since, they weren't mentioned they were almost or were extinct. But another theory is, they fled in huge numbers to an old ruin called 'Grindloch' not sure how to spell it, but EXTREMELY few people know of it, not even extreme LOTR nerds. It took me about 2 hours to find it, and there is rumors that there were a unfinished novel about it. I'm not even sure it exists, but it could be true. Anyways, they fled to Grindloch, an extremely cold place, on the edges of Middle-Earth, where a ruined fort was with extremely high walls (80-120 ft). There they lived until the 'Endish' fourth age, when Man inhabiting everywhere, there was a great war; went on for a good 40 years. bablababa. I'll do the rest laterz.

Anyways, I don't know why I write an essay when it's Yiannc's thread, but anyways. Might make me own thread like the battle of edoras.

Yes Anrza, Hobbits had no home once, after years of going without no home, they asked the king of Arnor at the time if they could start a civilization in the southern parts of Arnor. The king of Arnor allowed them to build their small nation because the place was a wasteland so he allowed the Hobbits to do so. You can go more into detail at http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Main_Page and search Hobbits, or Shire.

The five great wizards.

The history of the five.

The five where sent to middle earth to help guide the peoples to fight against Sauron. They first appeared at the grey havens with the disguise of old men. The names of them were Olorin, Corumo, Alatar, Aiwendil, and Pallando and there, they had the first meeting of the five. The only one to have an account of this was, Cirdan, the master shipwright at the grey havens, holder of the third elven ring. As the power of suaron grew within the third age, they became more active in the ways of what they had come to do. There, they decided that Pallando, and Alatar were to go east, and Olorin, Corumo and Aiwendil where to stay west.
After Alatar and pallando went west they were never heard from again. Here are to tales of the Istari, the wizards.

Pallando

First recruited for the mission to middle earth by Alatar, he was the child of Orome. He dawned to color blue, the same as Alatar, who was also the son of Orome. much is known about him. He had a greybeard, but which was not as long as Gandalf's or Saruman's. When he came to middle Earth, he was holding a staff, which channeled his powers. He went east with Alatar, but it is most likely that they failed in their mission. He was also called Romostamo, or helper in the east.

Alatar

He was one of the wizards who came to the call to defeat Sauron. He and Pallando became known as the blue wizards, since they both wore blue robes. Like Pallando, he also was the servant of orome and carried a staff. He had a white beard.

Aiwendil

Also known as Radagast the brown. His real name meant Bird Friend. he cared very little about the elves and men, but focused more on nature and such. Radagast was forced to be Saruman's Conpanion, so that is probably why Saruman was contemptuous about him. He lived in Mirkwood, possibly near the Gladden Fields. Radagast was most nearly of no use in the war of the ring, of than when he alerted the Eagles of Gandalf's whereabouts when he was trapped in Orthanc. He was the servant of Yavanna, and used the Staff. Radagast means tender of beasts in Aduniac. for the most part, Radagast failed in his mission in Middle Earth so, he may have not been able to return to the undying lands.

Corumo

He was known as Saruman the white, later Saruman of many Colors. He was the chief in the order of the Istari, and the most powerful. Even Sauron had come to fear him. For a time, he ruled in the fortress Isengard. He was a great and powerful mind, he had studied the devises of Sauron so much to understand and defeat him, he became obsessed with the one ring. He betrayed his mission, and look for it. Atfer the Hornburg, and isengard battles, He was overthrown. He grew jealous of Gandalf after he was given Ciridan's ring, for Gandalf was deemed wisest of the group. In 2850, Gandalf became suspicious of the wizard and though that he had desired the ring. He had become allies with mordor. He was killed in the scouring of the shire when Grima slit his throat.

Gandalf is coming soon!

Brilliant lore post. It's just that there was a min-novel about Alatar and he didn't exactly fail his mission, but he sorta did.

Question: The picture of Arda, whom was it person that drew it, and is this what Tolkien had in mind?

Note: i used the term "whom" correctly :P , very pleased with myself.
