LOTR RPG world

A few years ago I have been thinking about a nice RPG world for Empirewar. We had one RPG, which was "quite" fun but mostly confusing (the one where we randomly did quests for villagers and what not). But I was more thinking about a LOTR RPG, meaning that when players get tired of siege, they can go to the RPG and enjoy their stay there for a while. Now, I know siege is in a huge construct right now, and the staff team is trying to get everything in order before looking at other ideas. I just wanted to suggest this idea and see what the community would think about it, and if they have any suggestions themselves.

LOTR RPG

The world of middle-earth brought into minecraft, with adventures, wars, raids, politics, and many power-hungry factions that would like to taste the glory of victory, and to see enemy factions become long forgotten ruins of ancient dynasty.

Factions such as Gondor, Mordor, Dwarves of Ered-Luin, Dwarves of Erebor, High-Elves, Wood-Elves, Easterlings, Haradrim, Gundabad, Isengard, Moria, Rohan, Eriador, Arnor, Dunland and many more can fight against each other, ally each other or betray one another. Now, I know that the small playerbase we have currently wont make up for all the factions, thats why I had an idea to only use a certain terrain of Middle-Earth for now. The forces of Gondor and Mordor would be the current factions to choose from, when playerbase grows enough, there could be more and more factions. I made a marker to see what and how big the terrain would be for first use in the picture.

How will it work?

The player first joins the (sub)server of the LOTR RPG, he chooses a faction he would like to join. Then, he gets to choose a class, for example; Tim chooses Gondor, he then looks at several classes such as, Gondorian Warrior (focus on melee). Gondorian Archer (focus on archery). Gondorian Farmer (aids the economy of Gondor and makes sure food doesnt become scarce), Etc. There will be classes that fits the faction. You can become a powerfull Warrior, or rather make alot of money by aiding your faction economically. Whatever you become, it will not restrict you from others. For example, if Tim chooses to become a Merchant or Farmer, and he would like to become a better warrior aswell, he can. He just has to gain more experience then someone that actually chose the Warrior class. Maxing out every level will be harder and harder as your character will have to focus on everything, yet it is possible.

After the class has been chosen, then the player can create a character, its up to the staff how they would like the application, through forums, through in-game, thats up to them. I however suggest accepting or denying a character before it gets to play. So we make sure that he doesnt waste time on a character that would be denied over the time.

After the character has been made, the person gets the option to spawn somewhere in the region I marked that belongs to his faction. For instance, he gets to choose between Minas Tirith, Cair Andros and many smaller towns and cities, depends on what is built and conquered yet.

Leaders?

Leaders such as Denethor and Sauron, and many more of smaller cities can be chosen by a massive vote. For instance, once in a while there will be a vote option (one person cannot become the leader again after he has reigned that period). With the help of a command you can ./vote (name) for a person that would be online that moment, and the person with the most votes can become the leader of the faction/town. A person cannot vote for himself, however, others can vote for him, and vice versa.

Faction Leaders are ofcourse the people that have the most might in hands of a faction, however, if you are not liked by your own faction members. It will be possible to overthrow the person in charge, and rebellions will take place. Do you succeed to overthrow? Then a new person has to be voted to become the leader, do you fail? Then your character's faith is in the hands of the person capturing you, and that can end up badly. If a faction ends up in a Rebellion, then ofcourse, your enemies will have better chances taking your settlements while you are busy fighting off the rebellions.

Home is where the heart is.. or wherever you can take a dump with the toilet door open

Men and even Orcs can buy certain houses/places to live in. For instance, assassiniv has enough money from serving in the military to buy a house in Minas Tirith, he can stock his stuff there, he can edit it to his liking, etc. Lets say im an Orc and would like to buy myself a place, that would be different. Since Orcs dont really own any houses, however, he can buy a shack/cave/something to live in, if he has enough money/influence (since the Orc society doesnt really work with money, we could call this influence..?). Now, ofcourse, the closer to the capital the safer you are. But, the more expensive your house/something would be.

Wars

A faction leader feels confident or foolish enough to declare war on another faction, the members within this faction will take up arms and prepare for war. If someone wouldnt want to fight in this upcoming War and rather stay safe within the capital, then he/she would better have a good reason, to do so. Because maybe you are the deciding factor of how the war could turn out. Since Mordor owns East Osgiliath, and Gondor the western part. The first battle of every war between these 2 factions would probably start right there.

After a leader declares War, the reacting faction would have around 2 hours to prepare the defenses of the city that would be under attack. Before the enemy would show up, once the battle starts, it would be alot like the siege maps in EW siege. Mordor has a certain amount of troops (that he would gather, lets say 700 Orc lifes and 80 Uruk lifes). If these lifes are spent, then the attackers have obviously been slaughtered. The defending army would also have a certain amount of lifes depending on how good the faction has been prepared for war. Please note that only people that have access to certain lifes such as Uruks are the ones that took the class from the beginning of their character creation (this hasnt been fully decided yet).

Upgrading character and how to gain stuff?

Now before attacking/defending a settlement, you would ofcourse need to have a force that would be prepared, armored, and armed. Players without any armor that would mindlessly charge into battle would clearly waste lifes that would be more helpfull for others in a battle, thats why the person leading the assault/defending, would have influence on who goes in, and who would not. You can gain armor depending on however you want it, You can buy armor from smithies, or, you could mine yourself what Orcs mainly would do. Mine enough recources to make yourself a weapon and armor, find cobwebs or kill spiders to make yourself a crude hefty bow. If you have time, you could even let it be enchanted by the nearest Orc shaman or shrine. experience through fighting will heavily uprgade your character's skill in battle aswell. (You need a certain amount of players online to start the attack). To successfully capture a city, you have to capture ALL the flags or kill ALL the men defending.

Now, ofcourse this is just a small, explanation on what I was thinking, but its very important on what you are thinking aswell about this. You have great ideas? Throw them in. You dont like the idea? Explain why. This will most likely not be added sooner or later (perhaps never). But it was worth a shot. And I had great fun in writing this.

I have built alot of maps that were harder to build, so I know exactly how to build it if this would really work out.

I really love this idea! I had this in mind for many years, the battle of gondor would really suit as a conquest/RPG themed map. Obviously this all will require a lot of building and cooperation which is actually do able if we get our lazy asses to it. However I see people getting really confused about this so perhaps a tutorial on how things work and where to get stuff would help. Maybe like a bound item (tutorial book) you keep forever so you can look back when ur confused.

I've suggested having a middle-earth RPG a few times, never realy got stuck.

I simply think there isn't enough players, it's too big of a project and there are many locations which haven't been built yet. I would love to see this become a thing but it's not very likely.

Great idea, maybe do it in seasons?
Season 1 gondor (and her sub factions) vs Mordor (and sub factions) and harad
Season 2 Dale, erebor and woodland realm vs rhun and gundabad
Season 3 elves (all of them but woodland realm) vs gundabad, dol guldur and angmar

Good idea, but we´re still missing some locations?

Ya, we can do it season x
High elves and rangers (maybe Bree land as well) vs angmar with gundabad support
Season y
Loth and woodland elves along with Dale and erebor against rhun, dol guldur and gundabad.
Season z
Rohan vs dunland and isengard

Also, add economic system so farmers and non fighters would actually worth it (and you won't just see soldiers with farms) also maybe a limit on skills that do not match your class?
Or maybe just add a skill tree.

Idk if somebody already said this, but the only available location with connected cities is Rhovanion... Other middle earth projects are still under construction sadly...

Although this would be amazing, and I've always wanted it, it's not going to happen.
This was the original plan when we added the RPG a couple years back, to see how much work and time it'd take for this to work. It would take far too much time every day to build new things, moderate, code it all, and it'd need massive servers to work properly.

It's simply not doable with the time and money we currently have, and I'd rather spend it on siege.
