Osgiliath playstyle change?

I had this idea of Osgiliath
it keeps old flags and everything, but requires a bit of new code (not that much). I chose to keep old flags since tim just graciously improved them
the idea is: Modified control point
in the movie, osgiliath was a push and pull battle - it went on for days and ground was contested quite a lot.
men start at the camp, orcs start outside the docks and have an extra flag to take since they are more in number.
bridge would unlock free class, town hall would unlock a point class, brothel would unlock a voter class and the garden a free class

At the beginning of the map the flags would be uncaptured and therefore belong to nobody. they can be captured and recaptured. once a flag is taken, a certain class can spawn at that flag. that makes sense cuz reinforcements would need an entrance to the battle if coming from a different direction

this is a mechanic that doesn't require the creation of new classes but makes existing ones more valuable
this idea is in the fetus stage - it is still in development
 
Moria gold is one of the most hated map on EW (sorry Tim) and the only map more hated was osgiliath.
Do you really want to combine the 2 most hated things on EW into a single map?
 
we could even buff mages and make trolls ax 1 hit etc lets make it more hated :D damn ill try a diff map then, but I would like the concept of classes being unlocked by flags to live, idc what map.

To be honest, I doubt the gold aspect is what causes the hate. We are trying very hard to improve these maps (with the recent Osgiliath and Moria Gold updates), but eventually, there's not much more we can do.

I also really don't understand the complaints about those maps, but I don't think combining the mechanics is the solution.
 
The problem with Moria Gold is that the gameplay is static in every other map you push back and forth through the action of capturing of flags, therefore, it feels worthwhile as you see your action in the capturing of a flag affecting the gameplay. In Moria Gold, a gold capture doesn't feel important as it has no immediate effect in the game and so people do not feel it is of consequence and so this leads to bad gameplay. Additionally being a gold capturer often leads to deaths and many don't want to die over and over for something that seems to be a menial task.
 
BTW Tim let me add that after the new update I had a bunch of great games at moria gold and it is more fun and balanced map
 
guys the main focus of the thread is the concept that flags unlock free classes and voter classes like spear shield and swordmaster... please can yall argue about whether the maps suck somewhere else?

I have accepted the fact that a combined mechanic wont work, but I think the flag/class idea is guud imo

To be totally honest, it feels like a cool game, but not something fitting with our server. I do think that sometimes having things that don't necessarily have flags, but instead just contain strategical positions (like a windlass tower close to the flag), that people will often need to take out in order to get the flag, is a good idea.
 
I don't think we'll be adding this. It is too different from the gamemode we have right now and I just don't really think it'll work. It's a good idea, but it wouldn't fit here.
