My friend Thu recently posted this. I agree with most of what he said, so I think everyone should read this again. Farmer locked the last thread, but I want everyone to know that these opinions are those of the bards.

"
Common complaint 1.

"The Bards are always cluttering up the chat with their stupid stuff!"

The cluttering of the chat occurs because we are plagued with non-bard-approved questions/spam/annoyance.
"Can I join the Bards?"
"Why not?"
"Please?"
"Where's the HQ?"
"Why can't you tell me?"
"Pleeeeeeeeeeez I won't tell anyone!"

Or perhaps like this.

"Heeeey I found your HQ and have vids/pics of it! Now I can tell everyone because I have no freaking life and this is all the fun I can ever get!"

Get rid of the idiots. Not us. Necromancer was the most refreshing. "Can I join the Bards? That's all I wanna know." "No." "Okay, thanks. That's all." THANK YOU PERSON WITH A BRAIN.

Common complaint 2.

"Let's all kill the evil Bards! Let's gang 'em! They're a cult and a bunch of dictators!"

Just one word.
Why?
Why would you want to kill us? We are not evil! We are nine or ten people who write stories, talk, and roleplay! Also, how are we dictators if we have no power? Unlike the mods, you can ignore what we say! Sadly, as shown above, most of our time is devoted to appeasing idiots who want to join or who try to blackmail us with the HQ!

Common complaint 3.

"The Bards spend all their time in the HQ when they could be helping us fight!"

One map out of seven. One to three players out of twenty to forty. Two to eight minutes out of forty.
Feeble. Ridiculous.

Common complaint 4.

"The Bards are a distraction! People spend their time searching for their HQ!"

Our HQ is supposed to be secret. It's the idiots who search for it. Imagine if there were a school where every week they took a fieldtrip to a place, and on the way there there were a candy shop. Every time all the little kids go by they stop to stare in the windows. What does the teacher do? Make the kids stop looking, or sue the storekeeper?
Also, most people who complain about this are just people who THEMSELVES have spent an express amount of time trying in vain to find the HQ, and just want it shut down because they can't find it.

Common complaint 5.

"The Bards take roleplay way too seriously!"

We write roleplay stories because we have ideas, like to write, and like to have people and each other read and comment on them. Everyone deserves to RP, so we try to bring RP to the public. You can join us at any time, it's not reserved for us only. Our goal is to spread the RP, not to keep the RP to ourselves.

Thu said this, but today the bards would like to make a new official statement.
Though we still bject to non-bards knowing about and or using the HQ, spending absurd amounts of time searching for and or camping in the HQ, we will no longer care if you tell us that you found it. You found it. Congrats. Now, PLAY THE GAME, OR STOP BEING A HIPPOCRITE AND TELLING US TO. Everyone deserve to RP, but THE BARDS HQ ISN'T THE ONLY PLACE RP CAN HAPPEN. Don't go there just because you can, even if it makes you feel special, because we've been told enough times that we spend too much time down there.

I will finish with the mission statement of the bards, as from my wall.

beepbobit I just posted this to Thu's thread but, Here is the official purpose of the bards

The bards is a non-violent organization that serves the free-peoples, in particular the King of Gondor, Sjoerdtim. We also serve Only_God, the World Builder
Our duties are as follow:
-To write stories and other writings to further the lore, and community of Empirewar
-To discover all the secrets we can on the maps of Empirewar, and inform the community of their locations for the betterment of all
-To assist the mods in their duty by enforcing the rules of Empirewar
-To improve the quality of Roleplaying on the EmpireWar servers, and to encourage the community to partake in role-playing
-To keep track of all the characters, leaders, etc. of the community of Empirewar, and to organize this system
I don't think I missed anything, but if I think of something I will tell you
As for joining, it is very difficult. Though any bard may nominate someone to become a bard, Only I, as the leader, can create a new bard. At this time, we are not in fact accepting any bards, NO EXCEPTIONS and again ONLY I MAY MAKE NEW BARDS so stop asking to join. However, I may, in the future, accept people who are 'friendly to the bards' who would not have a position on our council, but would work to further our mission, and would perhaps have access to our HQ, but at this time this is not a thing.
To better your chances of being noticed by me and made a bard, you can do some of the following things:
be friendly to all on Empirewar. Establish a name for yourself, get people to know you.
Create a character that fits into lore and is not out of control. Have myself or another bard approve it. Roleplay as this character (not all the time and in everyone's face, just know the character and act as they would)
Write a story, post it on forums. Make it good, hopefully I'll like it.
If you do these things, you'll get yourself noticed by myself and the other bards. Perhaps one day this can turn you into a bard, but for today, there will be no new bards accepted.
Good fortune to all,
Beepbobit the wise, and all that jazz
