I've never really told the story of my experience with Empirewar and Minecraft, so I thought I'd write this.
I bought Minecraft beta in 2010 because I really liked the looks of it when I saw my older brother (who bought it in Alpha) play it on the family PC. After playing a lot of singleplayer I wanted to try something new, so I started looking for a nice server.
In 2011 I found a Dutch server called 'Nation Wars' (or Nations at War, Empire at War, you know the drill), owned by Sjoerdtim. It was a factions and ofcourse I joined the faction of the owner, as I was a fresh newbie who didn't know anyone. I really liked it, and I started playing on it almost 24/7 (I was still on elementary school, so I had no homework).
The first server of him that I remember was a factions server with 4 factions: Water, Fire, Earth and Wind. They were all on different staff-made islands. Water was on a few small islands, Fire was on a huge volcano-island, Earth was in some mountains and Wind was on a flying island above the ocean.
To get more people on the server Tibbles changed it to an English-speaking server, and because I didn't want to find a new server I slowly learned English by listening to other people talking.
Tibbles revamped this idea with the four elemantal nations a few times, but after a while he made several other servers, including a factions server with Iconomy and MCMMO.
These servers quickly shut down, and because my favourite server shut down I quit playing minecraft. However, after a few months I found out Tibbles made a LOTR Siege Server, so I quickly joined it. I started playing 24/7 again, and because I knew Tibbles for a very long time (on the web) I thought I had a pretty big chance of becoming a staff member, so I played even more and started reporting loads of rule-breaking dudes.
Skipping a few years, Tim made a roleplay server. I didn't really want to join one of the major factions, so I made my own faction called RedDagger. I invited some of the most elite players and friends on the server, and I assembled a team of 8 people; Ljuboss, CorruptWombat, Avatar92, MD_K47, lotrloz, CptBlockBeard, Leo1326 and me. We built our base deep in the forests, and we quickly mined for diamonds. Some of us had full diamond armour on the first week, and we started to join up with Ithilien in some battles. No one ever knew where our base was, but unfortunately Tibbles shut this RPG server down.
Returning to the LOTR Siege server, I thought I was getting promoted to Moderator. I can still remember Tibbles announcing 2 new Mods on the Isengard map, but it wasn't me (I believe it was Lord_Sauron and Titan_Kronos, but I'm not sure). I was so furious that I quit MC.
After a year, I slowly started to rejoin. A lot of people were swearing on the server, and I saw a chance to make a suggestion so I could somewhat become a staff member; Chatmods. They could only mute people that are swearing, spamming and advertising. And guess what, IT WAS ACCEPTED :d . I was really happy, and Tibbles made an application form for anyone to fill in to become a chatmod. I was accepted, but after around a week or a month 1 chatmod muted someone because he didn't like him. Complaints were made against the chatmods, and they were removed. Because of 1 idiot, my hopes and dreams of becoming a staff member were shattered.
After this I became very inactive. Some kind of 'revolution' happened, but I didn't participate as I knew Tibbles was a good owner.
This all leads to today.
Think of me what you want to think, but please don't think I'm just another guy that only wanted to become a staff member. I played on this server because of its wonderful community, never only to feed my ambitions. And I don't want to become a staff member anymore, I gave up that dream long ago.
I'd like to thank a lot of people for these amazing times on this server, but I won't write all the names down, as I'm afraid I'll miss out on a few awesome fellas.
But I'd like to thank one person in particulair a lot.
Thank you, Sjoerdtim, for making this server. Because of you I had tons of fun, made a lot of online friends, learned a foreign language at the age of 8, discovered tinypic and much, much more. I didn't always agree with you, and in my opinion you made some bad decisions. But because of you I was able to play on this wonderful server, and that negates all 'bad' things you've done.
