Glued the cloth and nailed it on the backside. Started to paint the front of the shield as you can see. I have put tape on alle the edges of the cross so I can just remove the tape when the paint is dry.
I'm going to glue white fabric / cloth over the surface on the shield, nail it on the backside and then paint on it. I am going to add straps so you can wield the shield and also add other details in aluminium.
Finally decided on the shape. After many hours work cutting with the axe very precisely I've made a shape I like.
Cutting against the wooden fiber is super hard and destroys the material! Had to find other solutions, very time consuming work and really tough. I'm definitely stronger after holding the shield with my left arm and cutting with the axe with my right arm for hours with only small breaks inbetween.
