Well I described the 'leaf' method, you described the 'react' method, both work when they shouldn't

That is not actually all that Leafy does. It is way more complex than that, and if you're clever you know it. 1. Leafy has CHARISMA. I myself find him quite sympathetic, as he has a very similar personality to me. People who are to stupid for his sarcasm can enjoy the ranting, people who like eccentric satire enjoy the sarcasm. 2. He makes good points. Now I say this as a person that thinks of himself as quite the good debater, and as a person that is fully aware that some of his points are 0% perspective and 100% opinion... but that does not MATTER. Good is what people THINK is good. Leafy appeals to the pseudo-intellectual, ever-so-slightly-more-intelligent-than-the-average 15 year old who thinks himself oh so supreme (adam in a nutshell). And what these people have in common is that they like to degrade others as to seemingly increase their own position. So if you rant about someone looking stupid, and he really DOES look stupid from the average person's point of view, that is relateable. So, completely leaving out whether you LIKE what Leafy is doing, one can definitely NOT say that he hasno talent and that his popularity is surprising.

Lots of sarcasm, and I do sometimes enjoy some of his content, but alot of it ofc is just plain ranting.

Ranting does not equal ranting. You say "plain ranting" as if that would make it a simple thing. But as I said in my points above which you conveniently bypassed, that is not the case.
