No, you won't. It'll probs be set in the 2nd-3rd Age. There will be very few inventions, depending on your faction.

Well, inventions could include the Fire of Orthanc, the Windlance or crossbow (If we choose to deviate from the canon), or maybe things that aren't necessarily mechanical, such as new breeds of Orcs, Trolls, or Wargs. Maybe we could have to invent plate armour too, since there was no plate-mail in the lore.
