Following the law of Conservation of Matter, matter can I be created or destroyed; which means that we cannot create any more carbon monoxide than what already exists. So... First of all, it is a small part of our atmosphere, second of all, you are right, carbon dioxide is not harmfull on its own, but when concentrations rise and trap more heat in the atmosphere changing the climate that is a problem. And I know the earth seen levels of CO2 that were 10 times as high, but, a very important but, human civilization, which started 12000 years ago has never seen a temperature difference of +/- 1 degrees centegrate untill now. So now we are disrupting earth eco system, the system that gave rise to us, the system that our foodproduction and other important systems relly upon. I am not saying the earth is in danger, I am saying that human civilization has never seen something like this before and is in danger.

OK Listen. Say I have C + O2 -> CO2 (very simple and unrealistic equasion, but you get the idea.) The rule of conservation of matter applies, because in the beginning and the end, you have just as many C's and O's. Difference: We just turned oxygen into carbon dioxide! (That's not good) This example hopefully explains to you that we can create more of carbon dio/mono-oxide, which, like fj said, is really really bad. Even the most simple chemnistry explains this, as well as biology and geography.

So we are constantly turning oxygen into C02, so there must be some way it turns back or we would be dead already. Oh there is! plants! Everywhere! Yes, thats correct, that is called the carbon cycle, a very balanced system that works fine, well it worked fine untill we started burning fossil fueles that disrupted the balance. And you are saying that because of plants CO2 wont increase, guess what? We are also removing trees and plants so tell me, while we are pumping more and more CO2 into the atmosphere and less trees and plants are are using it,it will not increase? We are CREATING the process this time, and not any speed up but 10 times as fast as at the end of an ice age, which should be the fastest warming possible. The thing is that humanity has never seen any substantial climate changes, the earht will be fine like always, we just cannot say the same thing about humanity.
