For some people who are bi, they relate to the same gender more.

I don't know. Ever since I was really little I've been attracted to guys but I didn't know what 'gay' was, so when a girl was my friend i was like 'ok i guess this is love', although i was secretly admiring the guys. literally i thought i was so weird and the only one, and then it took me till like seventh grade to figure out what the word was. and honestly with all the people in the world making all these weird social images about gay people being completely feminine, i wish i was straight sometimes. there's not a lot of gay people in general, and i dont like 90% of them because for some reason they all think they're oppressed. if you saw youtube's pride video, it's seriously so embarassing to watch it. i dont paint my nails or do makeup, the gayest thing about me is my voice is high pitched lol. i hate to be that one person, but i was born with it and i have no idea where it came from, i have a twin and he's completely straight. at a very young age i was always attracted to guys, i have memories from before pre-school of just liking some guys face just adding a side note is the thing that drives me crazy is how gay people say they don't want to be labeled, then say they act the way they do and they're so special because they're gay. pretty sure half of them aren't even actually gay

Then eye color (anything besides brown) and hair color(anything besides black) are genetic defects? By that logic(assuming you're arguing genetics) more than half the world is a genetic defect. There's nothing that suggests that homosexuality is a genetic defect more than something like hair or eyes. With homosexuality there's no massive change in the chemicals of the brain like something like Down Syndrome or Schizophrenia. Another words there's not a big negative change(massive amounts of oxytocin which is seen in anger)such as in the brain in which would suggest it to be a defect. It's true that it's carried down in genetics, however if anything it suggests more of an adaption than anything. For example, humans require sex and the fact is in history and current times there has been lack of females for males to have sex with, because of this their sexual desire would be unsated and in order to adapt the human body would adapt how it reacts to those of the same gender. Let's be honest here, people don't usually have sex to have children. They have sex to have sex and that's that.

This is going to be long so here is a pre TL;DR There are multiple different types of homosexual people, with a variety of causes. The most widely accepted theory is that it is a change that happens at a fetal level. I think it depends. There are the "hip" gays, the political gays, and then the actual gay people. Hip gays do it (mostly subconsciously, though some maybe consciously) because in liberal areas it gives them a sense of individuality they may not find elsewhere. Political gays are the worst kind, they believe that they can be taught to be gay, I'd suggest you check out something called "Political Lesbianism" just read about it the other day. The other group of gay people have most likely genetic factors , environmental factors (such as how they were raised, or are treated in life), or possibly a difference in the brain. Of course there is the religious explanation of Satan, but if you're looking for a scientific answer, the former are a better explanation. I think it's an interesting conversation to have, and the research on it has never been fully examined as far as I could find. Research is usually either too heavily biased one direction, or is not fully pursued. Some recent studies have thought that they may have found a link in genetics, here's a quote I found in The Atlantic about it: "According to Ray Blanchard, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto, the reason could be that the mother’s body mounts an immune attack on the fetus of her unborn son. As the report authors explain: Male fetuses carry male-specific proteins on their Y chromosome, called H-Y antigens. Blanchard hypothesized that some of these antigens promote the development of heterosexual orientation in males ... Because these H-Y antigens are not present in the mother’s body, they trigger the production of maternal antibodies. These antibodies bind to the H-Y antigens and prevent them from functioning. With the H-Y antigens not functioning, it could be that the “be straight” signal in the fetus’s brain never

My question is will there ever be understanding? Or are there going to be half-assed(aka biased) theories thrown about. It'd be nice if there was someone who did a major study without bias who's theory will become famous. The problem is people will hear what they want to hear. Another words someone whom thinks homosexuality is a mental illness will go in studying it whilst thinking it's a mental illness without looking at factors in their research proving it not to be. There can also be a scientist going in thinking it's not a mental illness that's ignoring facts that could lead to the opposite. There will be no understanding of homosexuality as long as the person studying it has some sort of bias. It'd actually be much better for someone who is conflicted to study it in order to get understanding and let's be real everyone has some sort of bias towards homosexuality, you either accept it or you don't. This fact makes researching it without bias an impossibility especially since it's such a complicated issue which really does require the absence of bias to really understand. So yeah, I don't think anyone truly understands it, and that includes me. It is, and will remain something that's studied based on bias.

That's exactly why I say I don't know and don't care. It's because people will keep having bias in their studying of sexuality. Anyone whom knows the basics of science understands to get a clear answer there must not be any bias in the experiment. One bias can ruin a whole experiment.

As someone who is gay, this has always interested me. The percentage of people who are homosexual is too high for it to be a mistake. If there wasn't a reason for there to be homosexuality in nature, natural selection would have taken care of it ages ago. What's also interesting, is that homosexual behavior is known to exist across the entire animal kingdom. I don't really think there are environmental factors that effect your sexuality, I believe it's all genetics. I have two other siblings, and they are both straight, and I can't think of anything in my upbringing that could have an effect on my sexuality. I wish there was more research done into this kind of stuff

I say we should find out. 40% of LGBT members commit suicide. That's a dangerously high number

For my ending that cut off: With the H-Y antigens not functioning, it could be that the “be straight” signal in the fetus’s brain never flicks on." https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/04/gay-brothers/480117/ Among non-religious people this is one of the most common beliefs, and perhaps is the most compelling. I personally subscribe to the genetic theory, but it's of course impossible to ignore the effects of one's life and experience on their sexual orientation.

How exactly would it be genetic if homosexuals cannot produce offspring?
R

Genetic doesn't necessarily mean your parents are. Genetics is literally all about mutations, and if you read my previous quote, the change would happen at a fetal level (as in post fertilization), so it would happen at a genetic level. Sorry if I was unclear in that.
