The US had completely open borders, and an accept anyone who arrives on our shores policy until 1921. You can't have illegal immigration if all immigration is legal And in my view, it was these open borders that the US had for much of its existence which made it great.

The world population was 1 billion back then, the US population was about 60 million in 1921, in 1800 it was 6.4 million. The US was the fastest growing economy in the world, with lots of space, life expectancy was 50-60 years, and the US was the world’s foremost industrial power. The US needed people and between 1900 and 1920 about 20 million people went through Ellis Island in New York. Today, the US has 326 million people, still has the most legal immigration in the world, and most illegal immigration (15 million illegals, not including their children born on US soil whom are citizens) and the world has 7.7 billion people and growing fast. There are insurgents, extremists, and criminals trying to get in. There are people who also want to abuse the system. We already have enough people and an advanced post industrial economy. We don’t need to open the border and let in 3 million people every year our public systems will break and so will the integrity of just about everything in America.

If we did, for example by 2030 the US population will be about 350-360 million. With unlimited illegal immigration, we could have an additional 36 million. 386-396 million in 12 years. Or as much as 466 million by 2052! Or more if illegal immigration accelerates and the fertility rate increases due to increased migration from countries where it is higher.

Correction, 466 million or more by 2042. 2052 would be 524 million or more.

By 2100 that would be about 802 million.

It would destroy America’s job market, public systems, and standard of living.
