Agreed. It's just a more convenient thing to diagnose them and give them drugs than to actually discipline and train them. On a side note, the medical definitions for "Mentally Retarded," "ADD," "ADHD," and a few other maladies were considerably loosened, allowing more people to be classified with these disorders than in previous years. That has led to a seeming spike in the afflictions when in actuality the spike would not be as visible, or possibly not even existent, if the older, more strict definitions were used.

For the most part all diagnosed do have it, I have family member with it, it is more and more of an issue due to the foods we eat, all the added additives that our body doesn't process. It wasn't an issue years/decades ago because there wasn't all the added stuff to food back then

And there are markers in blood work that show if it is present. People that don't have it or have friends that have it shouldn't speak on it, do more research, if you were around people that have it you would know and understand

Try getting medicated for it when you don’t have it.

It is getting abused for sure, but it doesn't take away from it actually being a thing

Nightmare you obviously don't know what you are talking about and probably have never actually looked into these disorders, and no they are not in the same class as retardation.

I legitimately have it haha. I'm the minority that doesn't use it as an excuse

If someone were to use percentages/fractions to claim this I'd actually doubt this more. No matter how great someone in their field is it doesn't change how inaccurate statistics are. Hell, any claim backed by statistics makes it more likely than not to be inaccurate. However, whether if he backs it or not in this case doesn't change the fact that it's true due to the fact it's almost impossible to be able to gurantee someone actually has ADHD or ADD until after someone goes through puberty. I'm an example of someone whom was diagnosed with ADHD but it ended up being corrected to anxiety. It may not seem like a big difference but it is. ADHD has little to nothing to do with depression and increased risk of suicide BUT anxiety does. If they confused severe ADHD with severe anxiety you can just imagine how bad that is. Hell, and they wonder why the amount of suicide related deaths went up to the 10th cause of death in the U.S.

The fact that suicide is now the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. Nothing can cause such a drastic increase in deaths than something like misdiagnosis. Hell, I'd actually attribute this to Mayo and other large hospitals starting to care more about money than their patients. The longer wait time in urgency care whilst a shorter time of wait with appointments should tell you their priorty of money over care of patients. Hell, there's been multiple cases of dying people being kicked out of the hospital due to lack of money.

you don’t know what you’re talking about

Yes I do, I know people with it and what it does and how it changes them

I am 10000% honest here. I have it. I don't take anything for it and that's why i'm such a cunt over the internet most likely

I'm not usually the conspiracy-type, but in this case I really think the willingness to diagnose people with ADD and ADHD is due to pharmaceutical companies wanting more people to sell drugs too.

Not a coherent argument, but a few points. >Used to be called DSM III. In the 80s the name was changed, *and* drugs were invented to 'counteract' its effects. When the drugs were created, diagnoses skyrocketed. >Moving onto treatment. Dr. Saul (an infamous or, a famous name), points out that its often better to treat ADHD without drugs. >A lot of doctors are happy to prescribe after a so called "two minute checklist". Often this just looks at a child (or an adult), and if they seem over-hyper, you put them on drugs. This is wrong. >Prolonged exposure to Ritalin and Adderall have unpleasant effects. You need to up the dosage, and this can lead to a spiral into addiction. Are the treatments worth the 'disease'? I recommend you all read this article, it covers a lot more than I have: https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/the-theater-the-brain/201503/no-there-is-no-such-thing-adhd

I only know like two people who say they have it and actually show signs of them having it. My poor friend went through a horrible time with his dad getting in a car crash that nearly killed him, and ended up crippling him and I think brain damage, and you could tell my friend was thinking about it a lot. He told me he had it before hand, but I'd never really seen him that distracted until then. He was always staring out windows, didn't get any work done, couldn't focus on what the teacher was saying, etc. It was never a problem before, so you could totally see a difference. Meds didn't help him, as they made him not hungry, so he wasn't getting any nutrients he needed in a day. He'd go like 3 days with only water and a bagel, and feel fine. So he could either have a lack of nutrition, or be able to focus.

i see what youre saying on all that but i cannot express how silly it is to say that all statistics are wrong

you can't sit kids down for 7+ hours a day and drill them with information, then diagnose and drug them because they can't pay attention.

Actually, I do. What's more, I never equated retardation to ADD or ADHD. I spoke in general using those three as examples of diseases whose definitions had been relaxed over the past decade. I never said that they were equivalent to each other. Work on your reading comprehension before you act like a smart-butt.

Millions of kids take Ritalin and Adderall without having blood test for ADD
