Let's hope they will do it right and not make it left wing propaganda

As someone who actually lives in Scotland, I’m proud of our government and what they’re pushing. They’ve shown such extreme passion towards everything LGBTQ amongst many other things; this year, our First Minister became the first PM/FM in the United Kingdom to lead a pride event, they’ve pushed for a service dedicated to dealing with people who think it’s okay to judge someone based on their race, religion, sexuality etc. LGBTQ is something that has been focussed on in schools in the city I live in for years; they would have an LGBTQ Awareness week, they would talk about it in specific classes, and a couple of years back, the school I went to also held the first LGBTQ focussed event at the parliament in which Nicola Sturgeon, John Swinney, and many other schools attended. It’s 2018.. of course everyone’s entitled to their own opinion; mines is that I’m super glad our government is run by Nicola and John... not Donald and Mike.

“It will become compulsory for state schools in Scotland to teach their pupils the history of LGBTI equality and the movements involved, as well as delving into homophobia and transphobia. They will also be exploring LGBTI identities, as ministers accepted the proposal, led by the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaign.”

Here we go... pushing for 'special interests' and 'protected classes'. Utter bullshit. Why not focus on treating everyone with civility, respect, and as human beings rather that toss / flaunt / play some 'protected class' card? When you get a government to ram things down folks throat, there comes a breaking point and folks - can and will - rebel. Please explain to me why any 'protected group' deserves special compensation and (forced) recognition? Civility and politeness should be the order of the day, and in my book, forced, government-backed recognition is NOT civil and is NOT polite.

Not really.. our schools have taught about it in the past without it ever being on the curriculum - the topic isn't going to get 'protected classes' at all, everything we were taught before still remains and it's only going to be one small part of the curriculum in one class. It's not like there's going to be a new class called LGBTQ studies... no. The government isn't ramming anything down anyones throats with these schooling changes. They're not telling someone to think this way about the topic -- as it's been announced, they will be talking about the history and movements of LGBTQ, but I know my old school (from what they've said on the change), they will also be discussing different views whether that being religions etc, and won't be forcing someone at all to try and accept something they don't. So I'm not sure how at all you see that as a "protected group". The service that they are providing to focus on judging someone based on their race, religion, sexuality etc, is not stopping people from having opinions either. The only time that this service will step in is if the said person is trying to insult a person by it or using it against them. You can have an opinion, but as you said.. civility and politeness should be the order of the day -- even with those said opinions towards others.

Then why make this 'protected class' an issue/talking point at all? Why does it have to have its own special snowflake label? Explain that without trying to candy-coat the issue by saying 'it's been announced'. Just because it's 'been announced' that a new tax is to be levied doesn't make any more palatable or desired. Simply by focusing on this 'class' of people, that takes away from the general civility and universal politeness - which should be shown to all people regardless of their beliefs/leanings/(legal) practices - and instead, singles this group of people out as the talking point. The topic does NOT have to be a talking point to teach folks to be polite to all people. All. So again - WHY does this have to be its on special point of interest? Again, a government mandating a 'special interest' education rather than focusing on general, universal civility. And if the students taught reject this information, and hold to their opinions that they do not subscribe to this, view it as abnormal, etc, but yet treat those identifying as such with proper decorum and respect? What then? And for the record, the word 'compulsory' means something that must/will happen, no choice. IE, ramming it down people's throats. In this case by a government.
