Compass

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, today I have come to you with a new proposal. My proposal is that we use the compass as a guide for players directing them towards the next flag they have to take/defend. Now you might be thinking "but bes, what about maps that are not linear". Well good sir/madame, that is simple, for that it directs you to the nearest flag, or you could have it change the flag if you were to right click whilst holding the compass.

We're looking at the practicality of this.
It's simple enough on linear maps - server just points to the next flag for every player.
It's more difficult on non-linear maps, in that case just pointing to the nearest flags would place a large load on the server.
A better solution would be to have some kind of menu, where you select the flag you want the compass to point to.

That's what Frodo spends time doing, same for every other member of the fellowahip. If you don't believe me, watch the movies.

Ok well in my opinion nobody would be doing nor using this, and that also would be "confusing for new players" like some people like to say.

A compass in your 9th slot would not befuddle new players. All it would do is provide 'post-new'* players with a way to find their way round more complex, non-linear maps.

Furthermore, if someone were lost in Moria and said "help I'm lost", one could simply say "follow the compass".

*'post-new' I'm using for the players who have been playing a few hours, understand the mechanics, but not the maps.

I think the compass is a good idea, and add it to the tutorial if you add it is a feature so that they don't even have to ask about being lost.
