OK here is the horrible truth, if you just concentrate on your academics you will get good results, but feel like you missed out on something (not a nice feeling). The part of life you really need to concentrate on is when your 16 exams. In the UK they're called GCSE (not idea of the American equivalent is)
I'm in Uni now and i still have the time to enjoy myself, my lectures told me that if i can't enjoy the experience here, there is no point in being here.
So here is my advice, make time to enjoy life, try not to compromise studies (unlikely - everyone tries to something other then studying), and I'll give it a year before we see you again at the latest.
