Those who said sparta, yes they did have an amazing military, but they were but a city, nothing amazing. It doesn't even really count as a kingdom it was a city state...

What!?!?!?!? You all know that the Franks and Visigoths of Gaul were the ones that broke into the walls of rome and they killed romans right in the very streets of the city.

And nobody knows more about the time from the death of christ to the bubonic plague than me. Germanic tribes were barbarians. They had the franks, the saxons, the goths, and the vikings. And the barbarians were the ones who sacked rome in the 400s

The mongols!

Not that they're in this list, nor in that time, yet they conquered the most ever. Or in this time, Parthia, who owned Rome a few times (Think about the death of Crassus ;D)

Mongol empire outclasses these 4. They controlled the area from east china to the Holy Roman Empire and up to Russia

I want all you little kids to listen
I am an expert basically on ancient and medieval history and I will tell you. Sparta was not a kingdom; it was a city-state and would not be able to stand up to the Romans or Mongols if they invaded. In fact, Rome conquered Sparta when Sparta was weak(they still would have conquered a full strength Sparta). Gaul was not a kingdom but a collection of warring tribes that was easily conquered by the vastly outnumbered army of Julius Caesar. The Mongols would have conquered it as well. When it comes down to the Romans verse the Mongols, I would side with the Romans. The Roman Empire lasted from the the reign of Augustus to the sack of Constantinople, which is a whopping 1500 years. That makes it the longest lasting empire of all time. The Mongols did conquer vast amounts of territory though but the territory they conquered was desert and grassland, which did not have much protection or any great kingdoms. The Mongols were stopped by the Mamelukes in the Middle East and their weak government fell apart in less than 200 years. If a Roman army faced off against a Mongol army, I would say that the Mongols would probably win in an open field of battle but a Roman army would win a siege. These are the true results. These are facts that I have researched over years and you guys have no idea. Any things you would like me to elaborate on, just post on my wall.
THANK YOU. I have been trying to tell people this

:P

Persia was an empire too but their men were so weak and untrained that a small army of Spartans could defeat them and the armies of the Romans and Mongols would just totally crush them. I look forward to 300: Rise of an Empire.

A small army of Spartans? The Persian had a huge army, and that's how they got their strength, by overwhelming an enemy so badly, slaughtering them with huge numbers. Yes, the Spartans were much more stronger, fitter and what not, but 3-4 Persians against one of them? He would again, get overwhelmed, and get cut down.
