Lets Rock Demon Wars Wooot!
Incursion 1: Devils Gate
The Fortress of Devils Gate
This attack took place over 3 nights. I was mostly there for all 3. The first night saw a scouting party of orcs come upon the Blackfyre fort of Devils gate. I was outside at the time, desperately trying to get into the fort, so I missed lots of the details of the battle. The orcs were few in number and ill prepared for a siege of such a large fortress, so quickly fell. We prepared for the next attack, but most of us only had stone swords and leather armour, if that. The second night, orcs came again, greater in number. We were prepared for this attack, and repelled the orcs with ease.
The third night was what we were not prepared for. Night fell, and all seemed quiet, but then the ground rippled, as if the stones and grass came alive. The enchanted rocks formed themselves into the shape of a temple, and orcs spewed out of a tunnel inside it.
The temple.
The orcs tore at our gates but were repelled. These were orcs than we had ever faced, and were attacking remorselessly. The archer squad of Blackfyre rained down arrows upon them, not thinking to save them for the onslaught that would follow. We lost 1 or 2 men, notably a dwarf whom I did not really know. The knight of blackfyre was fighting in the field bravely.
The Demon Gate.
What followed was truly horrific. I don't know whether the demons were attracted by the bloodshed between us and the orcs, or whether they were in alliance with the orcs, they came all the same. One moment the field as clear, and them the orc temple was replaced with this un-godly thing. Demons pored forth in a Satanic swarm. We were all disorientated, the demon gate had apparently upset our senses. I called out: 'Demons Sammy!' not knowing what or who I was. Suddenly, the world was clear again. The knight of blackfyre had fallen, and demons were at the gate. These were no feeble orcs, and made short work of our gate. They floodedthe fort, and many gallant men died.
Few Survivors.
I and my companion Finwe made a break for the watchtower, as we saw the demons butchering our colleagues. We barred the door with plants of wood and furniture, packing rock and soil to the door in a desperate attempt to stop the demons advance. We hard the un-holy cries of the creatures outside, but another sound carried through. A group of men, desperate and fearful, running and fighting through the fort to get to our tower. As quickly as we had assembled our barricade, we tore it apart. We leapt out, swords swinging at the demons who had lingered outside our door. We ran to the men, one of which had an injured ankle. We held of the demons as best we could until they all got to the tower, and then barricaded the door back up.
The only survivors.
God knows how long we sat in that cramped, stuff room, listening to the abominations search for us outside. Now and again we heard the scratching of claws against the door, but they soon faded away into silence. I believed all hope to be lost until I heard birdsong outside, and looked through an arrow slit to see the dawn rising outside. We knew that the orcs hated the light, and that they would soon depart, though we had no such knowledge of demons. We reasoned that if we stayed we would surely be killed, but if we charged out we had a chance of catching the demons in retreat. So out we went.
The final charge
We got very lucky! The demons were in retreat, and only a few stragglers were left behind. We retook the fortress from them and searched for wounded. This had been a definite defeat, we had lost many men, however it would not be the last time the demons sought to destroy us!
