People have been leaving left and right. WHY? I'll tell you why. Several reasons, some for multiple.
1. EULA
Some donors are whiny, pay-to-win crybabies who don't like that they have to be normal mortals once again. So they ragequit. I don't care how flowery you put it, that is the solid, heartwood core.
2. Nazgul Nerf (Or as some people say "NazGul" or even Naz Gul, or sometimes in the plural Nazguls)
There are two parties, the Nerfies and the Nazzies (not to be confused with the Nazis). The Nazzies are big-time donors who love flying around as a dragon and killing people, and who wouldn't? The Nerfies are the people who don't like the fact that they keep dying like noobs and thus they obviously think the problem is with the class, not themselves. God forbid that the guy is actually more skilled then they! It must be that darned "NazGul"! So they come on the forums and lobby for a nerf, and the Nazzies come on and lobby for an increase, but the funny thing is, the Nazzies ragequit not when it gets nerfed, but when a glitch makes it look like it's nerfed. Then there's hordes of donors leaving because it got a nerf, which is kinda funny because it actually wasn't nerfed. In a way, it comes down to not Nerfies and Nazzies, but Newbies and Pay-to-Wins.
3. Microsoft
Apparently about 50% of our playerbase are pessimists who think that because Microsoft bought Mojang, Mojang's designers suddenly got really really crappy and that Microsoft will start milking us for money. The thing is, people, THEY PROBABLY WON'T unless they're REALLY REALLY DUMB, because Minecraft is a delicate thing and they won't want mass desertion. So our other problem is pessimists.

Are you a newbie? Are you a pay-to-winner? Are you a pessimist? I hope not. Stay with us. All I can say is, I will never leave EW. If it sinks (AND THAT IS A BIG IF) I shall be the last to desert Tibbles, and if needed I shall sink below the icy depths with him, when all others have deserted like rats from a sinking ship. Those who left because of the above reasons are noobs and we don't want them, but do you want to go down in EW history as one of those who left as a noob?
