~Something about appeals~

Hi there!

One thing I have been thinking about is the appeal format that is being used here on EW. At one of the points, the appealing player is being questioned whether they agree with their punishment or not. But doesn’t that contradict the whole point of appealing? If the player actually agreed with their punishment, I highly doubt they would consider appealing in the first place.

To me, this seems a little odd. Or am I missing something here?

The question is a bit pointless, yes. Some people do admit to hacking, though, and make the appeal so the ban is no longer permanent, but is lowered to a real time.

Perhaps the question should be changed to something more along the lines of "Do you agree you broke x rule".
because if someone truthfully believed that their punishment should stay they would never appeal in the first place.

You're missing the whole point here. First of all, they're appealing. In other words, they want their ban to be reduced or removed entirely. They don't want their punishment to stay. The question (Do you agree with your ban?) is meant to give rule-breakers a chance to spill the truth (or let people who were wrongfully punished to argue their ban). Like Arak said, a lot of people think over their decisions and admit to hacking which usually reduces the duration of the ban.

If hackers disagreed with their ban:

Ban reason: Hacking
Person who banned me: Rikumaru
Time of ban: March 18th 2016
Do I agree with the ban: No unban me kthxbai.
Duration: Perma banned
Explanation:
I came on this server and started fly hacking trying to kill everything in sight like a honeybadger. I dont agree with this ban so could I have a reduced one?

I am not missing the whole point, the current system works perfectly fine for almost everyone.
But if your taking every word by the definition then it says something completely different, by the definition of those words used its saying that do you agree you should stay punished (and if your a hacker ofc u disagree that a perm ban should stay). and the whole point of appealing is to get unpunished. But taken into context it means do you agree that you should of been punished for what you did (which if you were hacking would be a yes).
context and definition are 2 completely different things, but in order for all people to understand it, it must be understandable by context and definition. as people who don't speak english would likely use google translate. and if its not by the definition those people will misunderstand what it is saying because google translate goes by definition, not context.
