TATW

Can I get some faction pros and cons?
I'm assuming they're a bit like this:

Isengard - Good anti-cavalry infantry and advanced technology for the soldiers and siege engines
Mordor - Weak, mass-produced units combined with elite Trolls and such, bad vs. cavalry, many siege engines
Gondor - average infantry, small cavalry, good armor and training and such, bad vs. Trolls
Rohan - best cavalry, bad vs. polearms like pikemen and such, weak infantry
Dwarves - heavy infantry, best at melee, little cavalry, very good siege engines, very good weapons, armor, training
Orcs - weak hordes, mountain allies such as wargs, Trolls, giants, etc., bad vs. cavalry
Silvan Elves - amazing archers, little cavalry, good skirmishing infantry
High Elves - amazing archers, good cavalry, good infantry
Haradrim - average infantry and cavalry, terrifying Mumakil
Rhun - good shock troops and cavalry, good pikemen
Dale - good infantry, good archers, some cavalry

Isengard - Best melee and ranged infantry for orcs. Meh siege. Only cavalry is wargs.
Mordor - Good anti-horse, huge units, but bad armor, morale, and weapons for early game units. Excellent generals.
Orcs - Massive armies, good infantry, meh for rest. Misty Mountain Orcs can get the Balrog.
Gondor - Good overall.
Rohan - Awesome horses and infantry, bad siege weapons and lacks light infantry.
Dwarves - Best heavy infantry, 1 kind of cavalry, little ranged units, slow.
Silvian Elves - Best archers and good infantry, but surrounded by enemies. Slow recruitment
High elves - Best infantry of the elves, archers rival the bows of the dunedain.
Rhun - OP. Good at everything, awesome economy.
Haradrim - Only evil faction with boats. Rest is okay.
Dale - Good overall.
Free People of Eriador - You got fucking Gandalf and Aragorn, OP archers and melee. No more is needed.

The easiest campaign for me has been Rohan.

Gondor can be fun if you gather all the northern levies at Osgiliath and assault Minas Morgul within the first 5 turns. As soon as Morgul is overrun, you can break into Mordor and weaken them a lot. Here are my pros and cons:

Isengard: Very good heavy infantry and pikeman can neutralize Rohans cavalry if it can survive long enough. Easily outmaneuvered by Rohan cavalry and early expansion is needed to combat its weak economy.

Mordor: Low quality soldiers, lacking in Morale and skill. Easily crushed if zerg rushed before it can field massive armies and Olog-hai. Nazgul bodyguards are very powerful charging and in combat, felled quickly by fire arrows, however.

Orcs of the Misty Mountains: Has powerful strongholds in the Misty Mountains and if Moria is assaulted it will get the Balrog, a very OP unit defeated by cavalry charges. It fields mass amounts of Snaga which are weak units. If it holds on long enough it will get its better and more capable Goblin halberds and Infantry

Orcs of Gundabad: More capable units in the early stages defeated by Dwarven melee and Free peoples' archers.

Gondor: Great heavy infantry and archers. It fields a diverse heavy infantry roster along with capable archers and cavalry. Slow recruitment for the better units

Rohan: Greatest cavalry. Can outflank Isengard and basically every other faction except for Rhun. Lacks havy infantry to hold against Isengard if the Cavalry are defeated by pikes. Strategy: Rush them before they can get Pikemen.

Dwarves: Best heavy infantry and armor. Lacks cavalry though mercenaries can be recruited near Dale. Can be defeated by a skillful use of cavalry and skirmishers. It makes use of the crossbow, which destroys the Rhunic heavy infantry.

Silvan Elves: Deadly in ambushes and in smaller field battles. Its archers are unrivaled in the East and are capable at using Swords if engaged in melee. Its heavy infantry is some of the best in the east as well. Defeated through attrition and numbers. If you take settlements of theirs or recruitment hubs, it will be difficult for them to sustain their armies

High Elves: Same as Silvan elves, except with Eldarinwe units, controls the Grey havens along with Rivendell. Again, combated by attrition and numbers.

Rhun: Great economy to start out with. Very good Cavalry and late infantry, makes easy work of slow dwarves with Skirmishers and crossbow. Defeated by Superior Infantry and archers along with pikes and attrition. One of the hardest factions to beat late-game

Haradrim: Lightly armored and equipped. Torn apart by heavy infantry and medium archers. Cavalry rivaled by the Swan Knights of Dol Amroth or Pelagir Marines. Can fieldthe mighty mumakil, which are killed easily by skirmishers with javelins. Late game units are keyto having a successful campaign. Defeated by: Heavy Infantry and destruction of key settlements like Umbar.

Dale: Okay early units and good late game units. Not superior to Rhun in late game units. Its archers are very skilled and use of the late game "Bardian Marksman" will make defeating Rhun easier. Try to destroy Rhuns economy by taking its settlements to the east of the Sea of Rhun. Try making an army and sailing across the Sea of Rhun to take its capital.

Eriador: Militia units early game. Can be united into the Kingdom of Arnor by having its borders stretch from Athilin to Tharbad, the Shire to Hoarwell, having an alliane with gondor and rebuilding the house of Kings in Annuminas which is available as soon as Annuminas is a large city. Also has Gandalf and Aragorn.

Easiest Campaign: Free Peoples of Eriador.

You have to push from all sides. When fighting them in cities, use your superior armor and such to surge through the streets and make for the square. In the open, charge at them, or get to the high grounds.

For Medieval 2, I suggest playing as England first, as they give good practice in all the fields. Ranged, melee, cavalry, siege weapons, all that junk.

Thu, there are also a lot of sub-mods. Two notable ones are the MOS sub-mod and the Divide and Conquer sub-mod. They add a lot of new things to the game, but while you are getting used to it, just use the base mod. :P

TATW = Third Age Total War. It's a mod for an amazing RT strategy game. Currently, on the Teutonic campaign (Basically the Baltic Sea area), I'm playing as Denmark and I'm wrecking the Norwegians and Holy Roman Empire. Too much Danish swag for them.

How best to play Gondor, Dale and Dwarves, especially when fighting Rhun as Dwarves/Dale?
With Gondor, you have a LOT of extra units in the western provinces, such as the Blackroot Vale, Lossarnach and Pelargir. You need to gather those soldiers at Osgiliath, you can usually sen the forces by land. With Pelargir, load them on ships and send them up the Anduin. By Turn 5 or 6 you should have a full stack of soldiers. Send them to assault Minas Morgul. Take it. Move on to Cirith Ungol, and then to Orc camp or Nargoth. Try building barracks to turn certain Cities into recruitment hubs (Dol Amroth, Minas Tirith and Pelargir) Turn the cities of Arnach, Calembel and Erech into growth hubs as when the advance to the nest tier of a city you can recruit units such as Lossarnach Axeman (Great shock trooper) and Blackroot Vale archer (Superb archer unit) With Gondor, if you upgrade your Siege buildings high enough, you get the Trebuchet which I don't think anyone other faction has.

On the topic of submods, DaC is better than MOS. With MOS it adds in 2 factions and a LOT of scripts. These scripts make turn times unbelievable, mine took 10 minutes per turn, no lie. DaC also adds in around 10 factions, dynamic unit rosters and Improved AI.

With Dale, I destroyed the alliance between Mordor and Rhun, asked Harad to attack Mordor and Rhun, and made a massive colony along the Great Sea and ended up with a full gold and iron army, plus three, elite spies, and a diplomat that has about 5-7 exp.
