Team Deathmatch / Domination

Team Deatmatch
Team Deathmatch could be a game mode that is used for lower player numbers or as a general spacer between long siege maps. The general premise of such a gamemode is that it takes place in a relatively small map and will only be a fraction the length of current maps. This could be used to add variety to the map pool, provide a gamemode more suitable for when player numbers are low, and give a use for the smaller EQ maps being produced - without requiring a lot of new maps to be made. The biggest challenge for implementing this would be rewriting the plugins to fit the specific gamemode, however, once the code is in place, adding new maps should be fairly trivial.

Variants

Last Team Standing (LTS)
Pretty self-explanatory. Everyone spawns in once the game begins, and all players only have one life - once they're out, they can't respawn until the end of the map/round. It is important to test maps so it is hard for players to run or hide so that the matches don't last forever.

LTS Single Round
The game ends once either of the teams is completely wiped out - this would probably end up with very short matches, something like 5 minute tops.

LTS Best of #
Same gameplay mechanics as the single-round variant, however, once a team is victorious a new round is started (this could be on the same map or on a different closed-off segment of the map). This can be played in best of three, best of five etc, and ends up with longer, more full matches.

Team Deathmatch With Score Limit
The first team to reach a certain number of kills wins. A variable that needs to be considered is whether deaths affect the score, and if they do, limiting classes that are good at maintaining killstreaks is important.

More Than Two Teams
This is a gamemode that could fit more than two teams very well, and this could be a good long-term goal (since it would be somewhat difficult to implement with the current system)

Domination
This is a gamemode that is somewhere between deathmatch and capture the flag/siege. If it is chosen, the choices need to be carefully balanced, so that it isn't too similar to siege as the primary goal of these gamemodes is to break the monotony.

Variants

Gain Score From Control Point
The only way to gain score is by contesting the point/points. I don't think that this is the best option since it's pretty much mini siege.

Control Point Supplements Score
In this variant, a normal deathmatch map also has a control point which gives a small amount of score on top of the kills. This would encourage players to get close to each other and finish fights quickly.

Control Point as Finale
A control point could also only become available after a certain amount of time, forcing all the remaining players to move towards it or lose the game. This would be somewhat of a soft-border, as players don't have to go there to win, but if the enemies get there first then your odds of winning are slim.

Messages from discord users:

Tbh I think Deathmatch/domination would only solve the "variation" problem, for people who find EW "too repetitive". Otherwise, it would be just as boring with few players as siege maps. You know where to expect (players) and can prepare for their personal fighting styles quickly. When there are alot of players on, there are usually too many players to analyse how you're going to kick their ass, and just kick their ass without thinking
So imo the real fun is rather depending on player number.
Maps can be shit, but a person has fun with players
team death match is the best thing that could happen to EW. imagine Morgul orcs vs uruks on cirith ungol or having pelennor fields back as rohan vs mordor and a rohan village battle, warg vs rohan rider map in the plains, etc. Maps get auto skipped when more than 10v10 maybe? or more than 15v15
it would be a lot of work, but new maps new classes new game mode
that work with low player count which we have
everything here is perfect, love the different gamemodes proposed.
the only thing left to do to get some traction with your idea is to make some small 4 chunk maps that fit the middle earth theme and would work well with the modes

Ideas:
Mirkwood. Elves vs Orcs. This would be very cool because a full Elf team and Mirkwood location have never ever been in Empire War siege. (only appearance was LMS)

Cirith Ungol. Morgul Orcs vs Uruks. Only melee map, straight up brawl match. This map should definitely be one life per person, it would be awesome to fight it out and see which Orc team comes out on top, just like the movies.

Rohan Plains. Rohan Riders vs Warg Riders. This would be multiple lives, and have a kill limit to reach to win instead of just eliminate the other team. Every class would spawn on a mount.

Rohan Village. This map would be domination, have several locations (3) to capture like any normal flag but it goes much faster, when you capture you get points every 5 seconds or so and when you reach a limit you win, more flags = win faster. All 3 start out neutral.

Black Gate (like movie, not an actual siege), Pellenor Fields, as the larger scale team deathmatch fights, but still shorter than siege.

Gondor Port. Corsair fighters have a boat docked at a Gondor port and spawn on it. Soldiers of Dol Amroth or another Gondor type faction spawn in the streets. A short team deathmatch.

Battle of the Five Armies. Orcs vs a team of 3 classes Elf/Dwarf/Men (Archer, Tank, Soldier). Would be good for like 10 v 10 and it would take place in the plains infront of erebor. There could be boulders or fallen trees for cover, Dwarf ballistas, Elf tents in a corner, and Erebor could be edited by our build team to have a destroyed entrance hall with the barricade built up by Thorin's Co.

EDIT: Mini-Siege. Recapturing Osgiliath. Gondor Cavalry (5-10 people) vs Orc archers/swordsman(10-12 people). Humans have only one life. Orcs have unlimited, but they spawn deeper into the city. At the start of the match all humans spawn in a row of horses and after 15 seconds they are allowed to charge. The objective is to capture the one flag (maybe the osgiliath gate?) to win. The orcs must defend the flag for either 10 minutes or simply kill all the men. If you stray from the objective you will be slowly autokilled for leaving the battle. So basically, it’s a one flag siege and it has a special twist because one team only has one life. It’s bordering on a “lotr mini game” but because of the large scale map and lore accuracy to films imo it could fit perfectly as a mini battle after Osgiliath before Minas Tirith. Once gondor is killed they would be sent into auto spectator for the rest of the round. Gondor has cavalry advantage and orcs spawn farther away but their downfall is only one life.

I'd be happy if just one of these was added. I think a lot of thought should be had before any additions but to be honest just having a test day would be the bests, if it doesn't work then don't add it.

All of the suggestions above are interesting and would bring some needed variaty to the server.

I would also like to add another variation to the DOMINATION mode:
In this mode all teams have infinite lifes and need to reach a certain point goal by capping and defending flags or areas. When the a team reaches that goal then the opposite team runs out of lifes and all of its players can be killed . Last team standing wins (just like the Domination mode in For Honor)

Yes that should be added, very good idea about last man standing after points are reached. Although there should be compasses added to the other team so they can’t just hide and waste time.

Another gamemode could be Tug Of War. This is where there are 3 mini cap points that dont take too much time to cap. The cap points are in a line and both teams start at their own point on the extremities (=home point). Once you have capped that flag you can go contest the middle one. If you manage to get that one, then you can attack the enemy team's cap point (aka home point). If you manage to do this, you win!

I suggest that the home points are harder to cap and easy to defend for whoever is in possession of it just to make games playable and not over in 3 minutes by a rush of soldiers.

I edited my post with an osgiliath idea. I think that’s the best one i’ve come up with. It has siege elements but a new twist. Seems fun may not be perfectly balanced but if any of these were added I’m sure people would think it’s cooler than lake town or dale.

So, pretty much Conwy's Castle Moria map but on a small scale? Not that that's a bad thing, it was a fun map as I remember.

I like this idea, though cavalry on EW could really be considered a disadvantage. Imo Gondor would have to have much better gear, also possibly a hero with them.

This one: https://conwy-thedarkage.fandom.com/wiki/The_Mines_of_Moria
It was a push/pull map, with that same concept of tug of war. Linear, both teams start with one flag, they have to push the other team to their last flag to win.

Good one Eno, you can check the thread i made a while back and see what the staff team had to say about the idea
