TeamElite and Ilthilien discussion thread

As there has been a lot of discussion about TeamElite and Ilthilien lately, I have decided to start a discussion thread. You can discuss anything you want about these teams/factions in this thread, but please keep it civil.

Brief History of Ilthilien: (It will only include our history up to the point EW RP closed, to avoid advertising)

The earliest history of Ilthilien (in particular Ilthilien's military) began ~Dec 12. Gondor was forced back to an extremely undefendable 5th gate on Tirith, and an ad hoc team of 7 was sent to recap Tirith. Back then the members were not particularly known, but that team included like 3-4 of EW's best archers at the time and a couple of good soldiers. We beat Mordor all the way back to gate 2, recapping all the gates in between then wrecking them all the way to gate 1. However at that point it was just a one-off squad.

Ilthilien proper was founded around May-June 2013 by dwight333. Back then, the RP server had not opened yet, but there was already significant amounts of planning even a few months before it started. Back then, the Ilthilien Rangers was a small group of players who were struggling to recruit and at one point dwight was actually thinking of disbanding, as Blackfyre was too strong and at that time held a near-complete hegemony over the RP playerbase. I joined around early July 2013, and settled for Ilthilien because I did not want to see Blackfyre dominate the entire server and while I did not know either well, I knew dwight better than everybody13. Ilthilien quickly expanded and in a matter of days overtook Blackfyre in population size. (Back then a popular topic was whether Ilthilien or Blackfyre was better, but that went nowhere).

Things quickly settled into an equilibrium as there was enough room for both to expand, and neither dwight nor everybody13 wanted war. The two quickly made an alliance and a monopoly turned into a duopoly. But around this point, a player called akam came along and started a faction called Kargeth, which began madly recruiting and made some rather ridiculous posts (such as having dyed diamond for their royal guards' armor). Kargeth quickly fell apart and while it survived to an extent, it never actually became the power it would have been by the time the server actually opened. Blackfyre and Ilthilien didn't help, members from both nations covertly contributed to Kargeth's fall.

Ilthilien's main advantage was its skill in diplomacy. It gained the overlordship of 2 regions and was about to incorporate a 3rd by the time the server closed, so a huge proportion of the server's population lived in the Ilthilien Empire (about 2/3 - 3/4 if I had to give a rough estimate although its pointless). However, its main weakness was that it did not have a good chain of command and hence some ambitious individuals decided to violate orders and start a war with Blackfyre, edged on by external factions, Kargeth included, who wanted to see fireworks and/or benefit from both being crippled. The war ended with a ceasefire and a joint military/exploration expedition to the north was suggested but at that point EW RP closed.

Ilthilien lay dormant for a while, trying out several servers, but later settled on another one where we still are today as a faction. While the playerbase is largely different, our origins are fundamentally grounded in this server.

[warning]Upcoming flamewars...[/warning]

-_-

It is possible for a discussion to not have flame. Even discussions like this. BTW the title is TeamElite AND Ilthilien instead of TeamElite vs Ilthilien for a reason, I want to know more about TeamElite as well as I have not been very active since RP ended.

Brief rundown on Team Elite...

It was formed by a group of Elites on Black Gate who were playing Royal Guard and destroying everyone, hence the name. I came up with the idea of making it into an actual team and for the first 2 weeks we were unopposed as there was no other teams. 75% of the well known people on EW joined and no one could stop us from winning a round, when we were all on the same team. We set multiple capture records like Minas Tirith in 13 mins, Out Pvping ents as isengard on the dam, and capturing the Deep Chasm in moria multiple times. One of the best moments was on the 2nd Version of Erebor (not the one on atm) where we were in 2 organised groups of around 20 each, and just took over the whole of erebor with barely any resistance.

It started going down hill when Pythonawe was kicked out for hacking, he claimed I was just mad that he was 'better' than me and many people believed him, so we lost 25% of our members to #DemoCrew. But overall we still gained a load more members, whilst having to deal with giant flamewars on the forums. The domination rounds were getting less and less as we weren't as active as before. But that all changed when Only_God made Team Elite HQ and we got a load of members from people who were trying to find the HQ. It was still an 'Elite team' just not everyone was amazing.

There was a few big conflict rounds between #DemoCrew and #TeamElite, most where #TeamElite came out on top, but the amount of flame wars made it less fun. At this time the teams were sort of taking over EW. Then tim changed it so you can't see Team related things on the forums and it made it die down a lot. Then Pythonawe got banned and with him, DarkLord disbanded. With them gone there was no real, good opposition to fight and dominating rounds got a lot less fun, no one could do anything about us. Around this time a lot of newer people were asking to join, so the Secondary Team was formed, but I had no real commitment in really what happened then, the best moments were over. Around a month later we had no one else to recruit in, and because of the Flame wars everyone wanted Teams gone.

Around April, we disbanded, many of the members became inactive, and I was bored of minecraft. Me and a few of the other leaders came to an agreement to just disband the teams, a few people tried to reform them but didn't get very far.

This is purely my opinion of how it was, everyone has different views and I may of got a few things wrong.

I am retracting my original post and modifying it with a new one.[/quote]
I'd actually suggest to drop this topic entirely, nothing is to be gained of it.

I think we should only lock it if flame starts. Some people are genuinely interested by this discussion as it shows how the server has changed.

Its actually a shame how TeamElite ended. This is simply because the server's design means that permanent teams are very hard to maintain; it might be a good thing it might not be. But the only time that large teams could form was in the EW RP era, I think adam would have suited himself well there.

I konw you guys most likely have read this before, but for more on that period of EW history I made a thread.
