The 'Vet' label and 'Golden Age' - An analysis

Note: I want a civil discussion on this thread. You may disagree with ideas, but please explain it in a civilised manner. If not get out of my thread.

Here is just a few grains of salt on this matter.

1. A 'veteran', or more accurately termed an 'Arpenian', is someone who has played during the time of Summer 2013, aka the time of the RP server. The reason this line should be drawn is because the RP server was the first and only time in EW history that large, organised factions were formed (well not all of them were very organised, but you know what I mean :P), and also it was the most recent major event that happened that affected the entire server community (during that time most players were either Blackfyran, Ilthilien, Kargethien or Reddagger)

2. The 'Golden Age' was far more chaotic than people imagine it as. There were a lot of factions coming into and out of existence, basically like the current situation but with far more inflated egos. People may still remember kargeth's 'dyed diamond armor', secret talks between Ilthilien and Blackfyre etc. It was an age I was proud to be part of, but it was not inherently better than current times.

3. 'Vets' are no more superior to new players. I personally rose to prominance during this 'golden era' within less than 2 weeks of joining, while Blackfyre was already heavily entrenched. The players who have played longer may have more experience, but it does not mean that new players cannot rise to the fore.

4. The 'vet' is mainly a state of mind. The reason why this identity arose was because during the times of EW RP there was a huge chain of alliances which incorporated nearly everyone in the server, bar the very brief war between Blackfyre and Ilthilien. Most players were either part of the Blackfyre empire and its dominions or the Ilthilien empire and its dominions, and the two were quite strongly allied so there was a sense of common identity.

5. Making 'lists' of vets would not be a good idea. The reason I proposed the above definition and suggested an alternative term is simply because the definition is quite objective, and would negate the need for lists. Also it simply means that people have played longer instead of them being superior in some sense. There is no point in denoting whether one is a 'vet' or not, and if you make a list you will always leave someone out (case in point: kingjoseph1st's 'list' left out the heads of state of the 2 most important RP empires. It is like making a list of notable leaders and having the President of the Maldives on it but not the leaders of the US, Russia, France, UK or China on it)

Veterans are usually in general more experienced, though that shouldn't cause veterans to act spiteful towards others.

I looked at the Latest Threads box on the side and saw:

That was the most perfect thread name muck up I have ever seen.

I personally don't like the ideas, they would put superiority on the Veterans over the Newly Joined. Also I'm not saying this like a nub who would be whiney since he wouldn't get a tag; I'm saying this as a Vet. I've been here since the Inception of Siege; and the ending of Old RP, yet it is not good to hold yourself above someone; the good thing about being a Vet is having extra time to play and get classes! (I spent almost all that extra time on Forums RP :P )

My whole point is that vets are NOT inherently superior to others. See my point 3. My point is that vets are merely more experienced and that those during the time of EW RP had a grand experience which causes them to have a common identity. (most were in the Ilthilien-Blackfyre alliance, and there were remarkably few wars during that time, even the war that broke out was quite short and the leaders remained friendly the whole time)

I joined EmpireWar back in december 2012 but I never have called myself or anyone a "Vet" It is very imature and players abuse it to get aboth or feel more superior to others. This "Vet" Only really kicked of last summer when anrza got banned. I think that people thought they were imune to a ban if they classed themselves as a "Vet" However over the past few months people really began to abuse it. Believe it or not half of the "Vets" are not vets, for example Slimegirl24 joined last year. Most people do not know who the "real Vets" are because they 1. either don't play anymore, 2. they don't have enjin, 3. Nobody has ever payed attention to them. I think we should respect players because they are comunity members, it does not matter if they are a Donator or a "Vet."

Whenever I see you on the server, you're telling all the new players how you're superior because you're a donor and a 'vet'.

Also you joined the forums in September 2014 so:
