What the splerg is a 'Windlass'

A Windlass is a device for lifting heavy weights. Now I assume that the 'Windlasses' in Lake Town are not these.
I think what is meant by Windlass is actually Wind Lance. Am I right? A Wind Lance is a big crossbow used for shooting down Dragons.

Just want confirmation this is what I think it is, and perhaps it should be amended.

Well i was always interested in this, since I heard some guys saying "oh its windlass, not wind lance".
To me that made no sense.

So now i decided to take a look at the script, i was only able to find a fan made one however, its a really good with sources from reliable websites as stated on the front page.

So I found this.

One appearance of the word windlass and about 7 more of wind-lance

But i noticed windlass doesn't have its own LOTR wiki page and wind lance does. So i take it that the "windlass" entry in the script is an error.

Yes, It seems so. Which is why 'Windlass' should be changed on the server to 'Wind Lance'.

The way "Windlass" or "Wind-Lance" is pronounced really makes it seem like Windlass, and since Tolkien never mentioned them and there's no official post available, I'm just gonna keep it like this. (It sounds way better as well)
