Admittedly, I don't care the slightest about people in need like that, nor do I emotionally feel some sort of empathy for them. I have never claimed otherwise. On the other hand, I still take every opportunity I get to help out with these small little things whenever I get the chance to, or when it needs to be done. Not because I care about them, or because I want to feel some sort of personal satisfaction for being so "good", but simply for the sake of doing good deeds. Not to feel proud about it – just do. I'm not too fond of seeing people who do a lot of good deeds just because they want to clear their own consciences – in the end, that is just another selfish motive.
The problem I have agreeing with you about the communion kids is this: They're required to get those hours. The school can make it to where those kids can't graduate and/or can't return to the school. I know about this is because I used to go to a school that utilized this (aka, snobby, Bible-thumping private school). Also, you're Christian?!?!
Well that's kinda fucked up... By the way, what branch of Christianity are you part of?

Humans are humans, and that applies for Christians as well. in the US, Christians aren't persecuted, and don't know what it means to be Christians, most "Christians" were raised hearing the gospel and are immune to it. They were raised in it and think they are a Christian. Very sad
Stupid Department of Education made it a requisite for graduation to have 40 of those so-called service hours. It was however a wonderful experience to work as a volunteer in the zoo, so I'm not complaining too much. Still, you can work out of the kindness of your heart and get benefits from it without being a hypocrite.
Ya, it's a requirement for communion and high school. this is off topic btw but that is another thing I dislike because if they do the service hours, what are they trying to prove? Their decency? Because I did not see that in my experiences. I'm catholic.
