Capture Display Bars

Capture Display Bars

I'm sure that it has occurred to everyone that they want to know how close the enemy is to capturing a point after they get killed in the heat of battle but then have no way of seeing it unless they walk back up to the flag. This poses a problem also when you want to see how far each flag is capped by so that you know which flag needs your aid the most. The solution that I have to this is to have capture display bars on the side of your screen.

This could be like the ender dragon bar (but on the side of the screen for all of the different flags) or just plain ol' numbers in percentages on the side of the screen.

Functions

This may cause annoyance to some players as it may distract them or get in the way of one of their mods. So to fix this issue I propose that we in /settings put a toggle capture display bar feature in. Whether the bar would be there when you first join the server and then you toggle it off or the other way round is up to the staff team.

Problems

I know that I would like to see this feature implemented into the server so I should be bias but I do want to highlight the issues here and now rather than seeing them in the comments. This display bar feature could potentially eliminate the essence of being able to sneak past the enemy team to cap a flag without any fighting using stealth but this shouldn't be the case anyway.

We want the server to be more about battling and recreating battles in LOTR and in LOTR if a pesky orc sneaks past the Gondor army and raises a flag, that doesn't really mean the orcs have control over that area does it? All it means is that there is one orc past the enemy lines that will easily be dealt with.

So in conclusion this feature would bring many pro's with little to no con's and those con's aren't really con's as the con will turn into a pro by getting rid of an unrealistic strategy in the game. I thank you for reading this and I hope that this could be implemented to some degree into the server.

I agree this would be a good idea, but... I personally really hate using the bossbar for this.
The scoreboard we also can't use for some programming reasons.

Viewing the lobby in minimap already shows you that it's being captured (lighter wool color), but we don't show the percentages there.

Any other ideas?

Right now /flags shows flags capped/not capped, you could just show them there.
Alternatively on linear maps announce every 10% in chat like before. I had no issue with that, but I know you don't like it :D

A while back I suggested having an MVP display on the right side of the screen, like with EW v.1 team tickets. What if you used that same bar for showing current flag status? But TBH I dislike the idea because then you can't sneak to the flag and capture it anymore
..

It could also be displayed in chat as on the old empire war. I think sneaking to the flag should be possible but taking over a flag on your own because you sneaked past not, it's a siege server after all.

Plus, if it were just implemented on linear maps this would not be an issue. You can't exactly sneakily take a flag if it is the only flag which is takable. At least in that case, broadcasting every 10% like before would be useful for both teams.

Plus you could turn it on and off in settings, perhaps.

Honestly, on 'conquest' maps (Laketown, Osgiliath), I do kinda like the sneaky flag taking thing, but I feel like there should be some warning. Perhaps an ability to broadcast the % when you are within x blocks of the flag, idk.

So what? I never even connected on Conwy so I didn't even know. And this is absolutely not a reason to not implement this

Although in general I'd count most of these recent replies as necroposting, I'll let *them all* slip as it's nice to have activity on the forums.
