EW and my problems with it

Well, this night I tried adressing a few issues I noticed within the community aswell as the server.

I remember joining Empire War when I was 12, I was just a little kid that didn't speak english but saw LOTR for the first time. I started playing more and more, and believe it or not, I used to hack, got banned for it and never hacked again. (People probably never knew this)

But since v2, or even before the end of v1 I noticed that the community is growing to an end.

In my eyes, and I think people will agree with this, the server isn't growing enough to be anywhere near v1. Now I agree, while at the same time disagree with adding gold maps, but please, add them in the right way. It's not like we can just cut a part out of a map (Like Osgiliath), and make it a gold map. I feel like there went no thinking into Osgiliath, while I still think it's fairly balanced it just doesn't play well. I like the routes you can take, the extra damage when you fall in the water etc, but I'd rather not have damaging water and less structures than a confusing gold map. At first I couldn't even find the gold deposit and had to ask someone. Even the signs to where the gold deposit is where unclear in my opinion.

Toxicity

Now I think toxicity takes a role in this story it's not something major, but I think it should still be adressed.

People have 2 different opinions about something is ok, having a discussion about it is fine, but just keep it nice. I often see 2 people that had issues before target eachother over and over again and spam "ez', and I'm not naming anyone!!

I think toxicity should be taken a bit more serious.

Variety of content

I like Moria Gold, I saw potential in core maps etc. But the variety of content takes a major role in this.
There just isn't enough maps for me to keep playing, it's fun to have stats and a blowing up wall but I think people are more happy with a well setup CTF map, like it used to be before. I do not believe it takes more than 4 hours to add a new map. (A map that is pre-built), by talking to Tim about his coding.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's move on to something regarding content

Lack of content

First off, I was happy that EW came back. I played a lot, but it became repetitive and I think this is a big role in this issue. EW was my favorite server, v1 and when it came back I jumped a hole in my roof, or almost. Now that I've played all these maps countless times it is getting boring. By adding more maps, with more variety like gold maps, core maps or even mob sieges (would be a lot of fun) I think we would increase playerbase. New content is always good, it just has to be done.

Lack of announcements

This is a very minor issue, but I think that when a map like Osgiliath gets added it should be announced. I didn't know Osgiliath was a map untill I saw "Make Osgiliath a Flag Map" by Tobberz.

Well, please share your opinions, but keep it nice.

Also if there is any spelling mistakes, it's freakin 0:22 and English is not my native language.

Thanks for reading.

What made old ew so unique is that it didn't get repetetive so fast.
Solution: Bring back old ew.
Tim: no

I mean like, why would I play? Stats? Add points, point classes (preferably make them support classes, like ladderer, or any other ideas)

Points, rewards etc is a major thing that we need. I have no idea why Tim refuses to add them.

I think that adding more maps and reward (points or idk what) can make player who played EW once to return and play it again.

I saw this huge lovely Minas Tirith map on a build server (I believe StealWonders is the dev on that server).. And I was told that Tim denied it because it was too big. But to be honest, I miss the large maps and community we used to have, and I hate to say it, but the impression Tim gives is somebody who is lazy.

*Awaits ban from Tim*

The map that in my opinion would work with the usual number of people playing is Mines of Moria, because it is a Rush map so that you don't have 10000 possibilities to win and each time only 1 goal, only 1 possible flag to capture at the same time. Rush maps usually work good enough to keep the players interested.

His solution is adding a "core map" gamemode. I have played core map gamemodes myself and can say that they are fun to play and would certainly add more variety to EW. With this new gamemode old maps such as Moria and maybe even some others could be added back.
We had a core map, but Tim disabled it because it was bad and imperfect.

It wasn't even THAT bad... it was just that every 1/2 or 1/3 of the time that map was on and it was pretty repetitive, though it did have some flaws, yes.

How about cart maps?
A cart map is a map where you push a cart (or a ram or a siege tower) from point A to point B and the other team is trying to stop you

Those actually sound cool. Something maybe like overwatch in terms of map and game structure layout xD

I really like the idea of that kind of map. It would be even more interesting if the defenders could use siege weapons to attempt to damage and destroy the "cart", which I assume would be a ram or siege tower.
Some maps that might work for this:
  • Minas Tirith (Mordor must escort Grond to the gate)
  • Minas Morgul (Gondor must escort a ram across the bridge)
  • Old Moria (Goblins must escort a ram to the door of Balin's Tomb, through the 21st hall)
That's all I got :P
