So the differences between our current shields and the new shields are:
1. New shields will provide less protection from arrows. You would be able to shoot the shield bearers in the back. (more realistic)
2. New shields will have 33% damage reduction from melee instead of 40% from resistance 2. Although Guardians would no longer need to lose their helms, so somebody would have to figure out if that changes much. (Also with armour protecting less and all.)
3. New shields will no longer have knockback.
Another issue would be that Goblins use axes as their main weapon, so they would easily disable guardians.
