So I've been checking out the new 1.9 snapshot and just seeing what all is new and what has changed. This got me thinking about how this would affect EW. So in particular the below got me really thinking of changes that could happen to EW both good and bad.

1. Different tools now have different attack speeds
2. Axes now more powerful while picks less powerful
3. Haste increases attack speed
4. Dual Wielding
5. Arrow Types
6. Lingering Potions
7. SHIELDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

So just a few questions to get an idea of what you guys think.

How do you think shields will affect pvp?

Will we see a new generation of classes based around Dual Wielding and Arrow types?

Will potions become more common on EW now that there will be the lingering potions along with the standard and splash potions

Will pvp become much more technical or will it still just be the jump straight into it and start hacking at people?

Do you think the two new effects, Levitation and Glowing, can//will be implemented into new classes, if so what kind of classes?

Will the current class balancing need to be completely re-vamped in able to deal with the changes coming in 1.9?

I think the new update will majorly screw up all the special class coding Tim has ever done.

I still absolutely F*@$%^! HATE 1.8. 1.7 is bae

Besides my hate for 1.8, we still have a future to behold and see, so let's just wait for now... though I am positive ew's staying in 1.7-8

There will probably be a plugin to add the old pvp system similarly how there is onefor the old enchant system plus this update is going to ruin the game, the attack speeds are so stupid that is just to much mojang. This is minecraft, its shouldnt be some stupid pvp game where shovels do more damage than swords. Maybe mojang should add /gamerule weaponuseTime false/true which would make it possible to go to the old pvp system.

Personally I like the addition of shields, but i think that most of what they are doing is a joke. I hate the idea of changing the speed of the Minecraft attack and the way that pvp generally works, i think that making the axe more powerful could work but could also break the game. And one a side note, I've hated potions since they were added and I've seen multiple pvp servers collapse due to the implementation of potions in pvp. On that note, unless my understanding of levetation is wrong, then people will be hovering all over the place, something that cannot work in pvp. Of course my opinion does not count for anything, but unless empire war and some other really good servers update then i won't be, atleast for a while. On a positive note however i think that the shields and arrows types could work well, if done in the right way. As for duel wielding, unless its a shield and a sword then i dont see the point, theres a hotbar for a reason. Overall, i think it depends mainly on how these things are added. Except potions. Potions are bad :(

Ps: (Sorry if i sound grumpy and negative, but i tend to be a more conservative person and dislike change. Ive also been playing since beta 1.4 so in terms of minecraft I've seen allot)

Shields- a way to counter arrowspam. YAY!
Dual Wielding- I hope so. Arrow types- depends on the arrows and the classes.
Potions- I can't say anything, because I haven't seen the lingering potions yet.
PvP- Strafing will likely be less effective because of shields, and dual wielding could potentially double damage output but be harder to use because you have to click with both sides of the mouse (which requires more thought.) But if you wanted to just jump in and start hacking, I'm sure you could. Just prepare to die a good deal more until you get used to the new combat mechanics.
Effects- Levitation would be cool, as long as it's not an archer class. *shudders* Glowing, not really sure how that would work unless you wanted to draw attention to a certain class that could be made to draw focus as either its purpose or to counter it's strength.
Class Balancing- Yes. Armor will likely be nerfed because of shields, and I hope bow power does too because of the new arrows.

With all that said, I am really pumped for 1.9 as I remember the Battlegear mod fondly and even still use it from time to time. I just hope nothing gets TOO broken.

Shields won't be added on anything. Dwarven Guard is the only class using the shield mechanic and his custom shield is better than the shield that's going to get added into the game. If Dwarven Guard gets the shield, it will still probably be the only class using it. I don't see how normal swordsmen will use this. I don't see how any other class on other maps will use ashield because archers might become underpowered then, more classes countering them.

Shields are not like blocking with swords. While equipped, they are always active, unlike blocking or our current shield mechanic. They provide immunity to arrows show from in front of the person, and reduce 33% of melee damage taken.

I feel like this is more relevant now.... so a little awakening isn't evil, right? :P
