Suggestions regarding rulebreakers

It would be real neat and handy to be able to report users on the spot, in addition to using the forums. I've been reading that staff don't like to handle reports, so this /report command could be used to alert a staff member when they log on that someone has been reported, and they should check the forums, or discuss it on the server. /calladmin could be used to immediately contact an admin in a dire situation. Remember bump_wolf, or whatever his name was? Spammed inappropriate chat, bypassing the filter, flooding the chat. Luckily, Tibbles was on to ban him, but what if he were not? We really need to act against rulebreakers, and on the spot, if needbe.

Secondly, a bit more of a controversial suggestion, is to set specific punishment guidelines to convicted rulebreakers. I've noticed that the same crime will result in different punishment, depending on the staff member issuing it. Hackers get from a week to permaban. It's rather confusing, and rather unjust. Everyone should get the same punishment for convicted crimes.
If this is added, it would make punishment simple and just.

Lastly, but also the most controversial, is stricter punishment for repeat offenders, especially in cases like hacking. If they were banned for a week, only to return and do the same thing, or another infraction, they should be punished more! Punishments have two purposes, to deal justice to those who don't follow the rules, and to set an example that insubordination will be crushed. If people think they can get away with repeat offending, they need to be proven that they are dead wrong.

This entire post regards long traditions, and will have mixed reviews between players. All I seek by making this suggestion is to bring order to the system, and to help end rulebreaking.

Please share any comments or concerns you have with my suggestions, constructive criticism accepted. Thank you in advance.

I like a lot of what you're saying. There is some serious discrepancy revolving around the rules, and this needs cleaning up ASAP. I think that what the server needs is a new set of staff ranks ( hold your horses before you start raging) One rank on a lot of servers is helper. Helpers can socialspy, kick, and mute. If we ranked up some of the current long-time players that can handle this responsibility (maybe create a temporary forum?) and are on fairly often, it will 1) help take the strain off of the current staff. 2) if used in conjunction with /report helpers can tempban (but only if a player is reported) 3) can give some players a little bit more security from spawncampers, hackers, spawnkillers and advertisers.

I really like the idea for a permanent or a very long ban for pervious hackers who have been caught again. The ban obsivously has not taught them their lesson, and they contuined rule breaking after a serious punishment. Nice post, I really hope the staff reads this.

Actually, what wouldn't be a bad idea, would be forum staff. They could go through the forums, lock threads that need locking, check reports, look for bad stuff in the forums that needs removing, and other stuff like that. It let's other staff do other things with their time, not having to check reports non stop.

Perm ban would be the best idea for previous hackers that get caught again. If they didn't learn their lesson the first time, why would they learn it the second.

because if they really care to come back to siege a 1 month ban will either make them forget the server or really stop hacking and play it. or atleast that is sjoerdtims opinion from previous threads (something close to that).
third/fourth time hackers get banned perm i think. its just it takes so long no hacker is ever around that long :P
i think brutely was though. of course his brother is fj333

I would like to see some demi-staff in conjunction with the full-on staff, it would probably take the pressure off of everyone's backs. Maybe just 2 or 3 would be good for immediate punishment in severe cases.

wut is with my name, I dont really understand it ?

Yeah, there really was no need for that. If you suspect him of doing things, don't go passive aggressive on my thread. Make a report. I know you did, but it's not like a military campaign, we aren't your personal army. Everyone deserves respect.

I made the Helper suggestion based on what I've seen on other servers, and these guys really take the pressure off the main staff. These guys can deal with immediate cases of hacking, spamming, advertising etc. without players having to make a report, then the staff have to go through said report. Furthermore, the forum could use some management (I have some experience in this area let me know if you need help) and some cleaning up.

These ideas are great, but I doubt the staff will change their ways, as Tim doesn't like people saying the staff are inactive or they aren't doing their jobs.

Im not saying that the staff are inactive, just that the server has gotten really big, and with all the new reports, many of them misdemeanors the staff HAVE to go through ALL of them. What I suggest is that these helper staff would help the current staff ( like an aide) and would deal with immediate small cases so that they dont have to be reported on the forum.
