Started a Greek campaign. I had a general unit, two mercenary archer units, and a mercenary unit of some light infantry (forget name). This is in Asia Minor. My general is attacked by a HUGE army of Pontus, numbering 2.3k+. In all I have barely more than 500 men, most archers....goodness gracious.....little did I know just how badass mercenary archers are...
Battlefield is an open plain, slight hills. I got my guys backed up against a hill with infantry in front, archers behind, calvary (general) behind that. The horde comes close and my archers use fire arrows on their infantry, attempting to make them runaway. None run and they charge, I send my single infantry unit into the thick of their forces and they were engulfed almost immediately (rip). I then sent my archer units in different directions and made my calvary charge single enemy infantry units at a time with my archers raining down hell from behind the calvary. After my calvary would make a charge, I'd bring them back and charge again, not letting them stand still surrounded by infantry (spearmen at that). Eventually my general died and his unit destroyed. At this point I was just flipping Pontus off and trying to kill as many of their troops as I could before my archers got swallowed as well. I still had them set on fire arrows though. After the calvary charges, the infantry were shaken up, and my fire arrows kept making them run (they wouldn't leave the battlefield though, just run off, regroup and come back). This went on for quite some time, then one archer unit was killed by the enemy general unit (calvary). My other archer unit was on the other side of the map still shooting infantry, running back, and shooting again. By the time the enemy calvary had gotten to my side of the map, they were tired. I switched from fire arrows to normal arrows (more accurate) in an attempt to kill their general. I didn't kill him but his unit fled the battlefield after many casualties. By this time my last archer unit was out of ammo. "Well fought but it's over now" I thought. Enemy had about 5 infantry units left, about one third of each unit was dead. idk how I made it...but the archer defeated them in melee.....no freaking clue how but they did.
