    The 1812 overture. Despite what some people seem to think (looking at you middle school band substitute teacher who got upset with me for correcting him.), the song has absolutely nothing to do with the War of 1812 between Britain and a young US. Rather, the song is about Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's failed invasion of Russia in 1812...thought it would be fairly obvious with the French National Anthem interspersed frequently throughout the piece. Tchaikovsky, being a Russian composer, could honestly have cared less about a disagreement between the British Empire and one of it's breakaway colonies half a world away beyond the fact that French involvement in the American Revolution helped kick off the French Revolution, which ultimately saw Emperor Napoleon rise to power and invade Russia in wintertime.

    Seriously, people actually think it is related to war of 1812? Small fry compared to over half a million soldiers fighting in Napoleon's invasion of Russia. Fun fact, last one to conquer Moscow before Napoleon in 1812 were Mongols in 1382, nobody did it since.

    The Umayyad Caliphate was a huge Islamic Empire that dominated North Africa (after Arabs invaded it) and the Middle East. It took over Spain and ruled at least some parts of it for 700 years. Although their rule was not necessarily oppressive.

In all seriousness tho, the literal posts on your wall are usually just stating facts, meaning it's, as you say, truly hard to disagree with.
