This is an idea for a not necessarily map specific class, called the Axeman. I feel that it could be a good addition to add variety, provide a new playstyle, and be balanced. So here's the class:

Class Name: Axeman
Weapon: Battleaxe (The uniqueness of which will be discussed later.)
Armour:
 • Whatever kind of headgear the team uses (Wool, custom head, etc.)
 • Chain Chestplate
 • Iron Leggings
 • Chain Boots

Most aspects of this class are subject to change and balance, it is the unique feature of it I want to highlight.

At first glance, this class probably looks fairly mundane. But here is the special aspect of it:
This class, unlike all other classes, would have attack cooldowns.
Don't panic, those of you who dislike 1.9, hear me out on this. This class's weapon would deal much higher damage than a swordsman, but would be unique in that it would have an actual attack cooldown. Many people enjoy 1.8 pvp, and many enjoy 1.9 pvp. I believe this would be a good compromise, for these reasons:
 1. If you don't like cooldowns you don't have to use this class, it's for the people who do.
 2. It would be balanced due to having a high damage but a slow attack speed, and lower armour than a swordsman.
 3. It would add a very unique playstyle, that is entirely optional.
 4. This does NOT mean all other classes would be given cooldowns, just this one.

Basically, this class would appeal to those who enjoy 1.9 pvp, while not forcing 1.9 pvp upon those who don't enjoy it. I believe it has the potential to be a good compromise. Leave your thoughts below.

Also, I do NOT intend for this thread to become a discussion about which pvp style is better. It isn't really relevant, as this class would be optional to use.

Now's let get some actual feedback, da?

It's pretty balanced, vulnerable to missiles and long melees, but great at cutting down weakened infantry with it's damage. It is a nice compromise, and could be a sort of troll. I like it, personally.

And maybe different names depending on the map and team? Like on Helm's, Isengard's could be called Reaver and Rohan's be called Lumberman.

I like it! Would it be free for everyone, donor, or for some future voting/points system?

If used properly in a 1v1 vs a good swordsman who would win the 1v1?
Lets look at the possibilities..
A) the swordsman wins; this class is absolutely pointless
B) this class wins; stronger class for people who enjoy 1.9, weaker class for people who enjoy 1.8.
Meaning the class makes it unfair, and forces anybody that wants to actually get stuff done to play 1.9 pvp

I don't like this idea

Well, the idea is to make either class able to win. Even if Swordsman is slightly stronger, this class would still have it's tactical uses, as Dimitri analyzed: It would be weak in long melee confrontations but good at killing weakened infantry.

My input on this is that troll supposedly has the same playstyle. That's not negative in any way. Other than that, add slowness to it, since it will be hard hitting. And orcs should use swords again, then, if this'll have an axe. Swords still deal more damage than the axe, so you know. Either that or boost the attack of the axe again, 960266.

I'm not sure. I might add a free weaker version of the Halberd class named Axeman instead of Skirmisher, but I'm not sure. Also, I can't enable cooldowns for one class.

You could enable cooldowns for all classes but give those that don't require them the Haste effect, since that shrinks the cooldown to the point where it's negligible.
